Can you use a water bottle that has been mouldy once cleaned?

DS has an air up (I know, hideously expensive and gimmicky but at least they have encouraged water drinking in school!) I have been washing with washing up liquid but when I looked closely tonight there was black mould in the mouthpiece as it has hidden grooves! I’ve thoroughly cleaned it and soaked in Milton. It will be ok to use afterwards won’t it? Or should I shell out for a new part (costs half the bottle!!) Not sure whether that’s necessary although I think to be on the safe side it probably is?!

Yes. I would anyway.

I don't have that kind of bottle but have had others where they've been left and got mouldy. I bung them through the dishwasher on a hot wash after scrubbing with a bottle brush but have been known to soak bits in bleach too. If I bleach it I also put it in the dishwasher after rinsing to make sure all the bleach is off. I'm not dead yet!

Cleaned ours with a bottle brush and it came up a treat. DC stopped using it though, due to headaches.
I think they are just one step away from vaping.

I would worry cleaning alone wouldn’t sort it but I would have thought Milton would.

Yeah. We've found mould on some of the rubber rings of bottles before. Soak in Milton overnight or a couple of days. I've used mould and mildew remover before when we've run out. Just wash well and it's good to go again.

I’m not sure if I’ve misread what you’ve written but I would use a standard mould and mildew spray on anything you’re planning to eat and drink from. Milton is fine.

Sorry that should say wouldn’t!

Yeah you understood right. Honestly, as long as it's washed well after we've never had a problem. It's obviously not advisable but it's not a daily cleaning routine. We use the astonish stuff. It can be used on sinks and plug holes, which we use to prep food. Our theory is as long as they're washed thoroughly afterwards, it's no different to using the sink to prep food after using mould and mildew remover on it. Again, we'd wash it well.

Thanks all. I will leave to soak in Milton!!
