Tesco trolley

I've been going to my local for 5 years and know the staff by name, I see the same security nearly every time.

After leaving scan as you shop and exiting the store, my trolley stopped past the security beep things and wouldn't move, as if it was frozen on the ground! Security marches over and wants to see a receipt despite the alarms not going off and has this weird device in his hand that said 'trolley lock'

Wtf is that?! Baffled why I was stopped too but that's not my concern here as I know they have to do regular stops.

If you don't go through a payment point, the lock will jam. If you did, then it's a mistake and make sure you always ask for a receipt!

@Leggingslife thankfully I had a receipt as it was big shop day! Although I had to dig through several bags to remember where I put it Blush

I always leave the receipt on top of a bag especially if I've bought alcohol or electrical appliance.

My daughter is eight months pregnant and trolly came to a surprise stop and she hit her bump very hard which is a problem because she has a problem with her blood being different from baby Tesco say the trolleys lock if you don’t pay she had receipt and duty manager attended but no first aider on duty so she went after pain she contacted midwife this is ongoing I have reported it to head office and have incident number. Fingers crossed

They do it to prevent trolley pushouts which are a big problem for supermarkets. And before anyone starts wailing that these poor ppl can't afford food, it's usually druggies or organised gangs who go for the big stuff coffee, washing powder, meat joints etc, easy to sell on

What happens if you don't get a receipt? I assume the self-serve issues them automatically in stores where they do this?

I'd be annoyed if I refused a receipt (which I always do) and then got the third degree by a security guard. I might not be very polite.

If you've got a loyalty card they can look up your transactions on that, if not, I expect they can do it with your payment card details.

Tesco do not need to have a first aider available to the public.

It’s an unfortunate situation but not sure what complaining is going to do. It wasn’t anyone’s fault and there was nothing that could be done.

It happened to me the other day in Sainsburys. I had picked up something from the Argos pick up point and trolley jammed in the doorway. The worker from Argos came to unlock it with their handheld magnet thing.

itsmylife7 · 25/07/2023 11:55

Always get a receipt regardless of how much you've spent.

And even if they did a first aider isn't going to be able to do anything for a pregnant woman with blood issues.

I was entering Sainsburys from their car park...empty trolley and it locked suddenly and i walked stright into the trolley handle! The trolley lifted up its back part into my stomach.
Reported it to security at Sutton Store but they were not really instrested saying the radio signal was off...explained it must of been on for it to happen they suggested changing trolley which i did. Had bruise type pains across my stomach for days afterwards and now bruise has surfaced across my stomach. Reported it via email to Chairman of Sainsbury saying i did not want compensation but if a vulnerable person with medical conditions had done it or a pregnant person then they may be calling an ambulance!
Reply was: we've informed Branch Manager ! But wrong branch...makes me wonder if Sainsburys really cares about us as customers or not?
