£1.75 for Heinz Spaghetti and Sausages at BnM! Is this hyperinflation?

JingleBellez · 24/04/2023 22:37

Anyone else take GCSE History and think we are facing hyperinflation?

Should I buy a wheelbarrow for husband's wages to run to the shops before the loaf goes up? Again!

Tongue in cheek with a hint of genuine fear! If we don't learn from history we are doomed to repeat it.

I dunno, but I can't afford to eat properly anymore.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 24/04/2023 23:30

Those words. "There isn't a magic money tree" are ringing very loudly in my ears. Yet we ordinary everyday folk are expected to find one just like that.

JingleBellez · 24/04/2023 23:51

I feel very sorry for people who can't afford these now expensive basics. It's going to get a lot worse.

You're not alone @stbrandonsboat a lot of people can no longer afford the basics.

@Awwlookatmybabyspider if you have the wealth of Croesus the they won't ever get/understand poverty.

The thing that shocked me in my last shop is the price of own brand freezer food.. I've always relied on the chips, chicken goujons etc and they've gone up to £2.50 in Morrisons.

JingleBellez · 25/04/2023 12:16

Everything price wise is going through the roof. There a literally no savings to be made.

Even in the budget supermarkets you can feel the rise in your pocket! Prices obviously.

CantFindTheBeat · 25/04/2023 12:25

Asda has them on offer for 4 for £5. Not a bad price but obviously you have to be able to afford £5/want 4.

I think B&M has been expensive for a while, sadly.

JingleBellez · 25/04/2023 12:50

my nearest asda are an hour and an hour and a half that said. It's quite good when you get there the massive 1 in the nearest city. I like the clothes section.

We are very rural and we have BnM, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Co-op. I'd kill for a budget German supermarket chain.

JingleBellez why is it going to get worse? Is it because of Putin? I thought the media was stating food inflation will be less this next twelve months and that we are over the worst of it.

Delivery a quid sometimes! I shop at many supermarkets as they each rip you off for different things

JingleBellez · 25/04/2023 15:58

3.50 to 4.50. Literally very dear to get here! Quite nice when here lol! Think literally middle of nowhere.

food prices are predicted to rise because of bad weather negatively impacting food production and high fuel and energy prices which in turn are passed onto the consumers.

@Zippedydoo123 Just because inflation drops it doesn’t mean prices will ?
And coming up soon are checks on imports from the EU too.

But you will still pay for the increased fuel etc.

The headline rate of inflation is starting to fall, but food price inflation is running much, much higher than the headline rate. It rose from 18.2% to 19.2% between February and March. Even if it peaks below 20% in the next couple of months food prices are going to stay high.

There's no sign of the pressures on food prices easing - labour is still in short supply in the food and agriculture sectors, energy prices are still high, commodity prices are still high, and the UK is now voluntarily locked into food imports from more expensive producer countries.

The stockwell ones in tesco are 60p and have more beans in them

tescocreditcard · 25/04/2023 16:27

£2 for Heinz baked beans in my local supermarket. £2. It's a fucking side - not the main ingredient!

M and s meanwhile own brand baked beans 50p

As she (assumed she) put it far more eloquently.

I've seen food prices DOUBLE - that's not 19 per cent that's 100 per cent!

Some food prices have just gone weird though. I don't know why a tin of sardines sticks in my head as a price to remember (I don't even like them, I buy them for others) but over the last two years they've gone from 40p to 60p to 50p and were 45p last week.

I totally agree with you. No rhyme or reason for the increase/decrease.
