Taking snacks to Disneyland

Malo314 · 24/04/2023 19:00

Hello,

We're taking DD(4) to Disneyland Paris in May, and I've been checking out food prices in the parks. Honestly, I'm horrified, I think we're going to have to take some of our own food as I don't think we can afford to be eating £8 toasties and £20 pasta every day.

I wondered what other people's experiences were of taking snacks into France (post Brexit). Can you take fruit, cakes, biscuits, crisps, nuts in hand luggage when you fly into CDG? Or is there anywhere in arrivals on CDG where we can buy snacks before hopping on the Disney shuttle. We're flying easy jet so think we arrive into terminal 2B. We won't be leaving the parks once we're there, and since we're getting the shuttle won't be able to stop to shop en route.

I'd also be very interested in hearing any money saving tips you might have!

Thanks 😊

I have been about 8 times and never noticed the drinks machines 😂
They are very hidden at the back of some of the corridors!!!!

I'll know for next time anyway😂

MonsterChopz · 24/04/2023 20:35

There's a trainsttrigjt next.to.the entrance to Disney village that does sandwiches etc.

For drinks there are water fountains everywhere in the park so could take one of the small squeeze bottles of diluting juice to use too.

The petrol station next to Santa Fe and Cheyenne is good for snacks and only a 10 min walk from sequoia lodge.

Gymmum82 · 24/04/2023 20:38

There’s a small shop in the station. But I’d go to Valle d’europe and stock up. We took food in for every meal except dinner and went for 3 days too. Evening meals were around £60 for 4 for a basic burger and chips meal. It’s hellishly expensive so take as much food as you can

Take as many snacks as you can op! We went in December and thought we had loads but it wasn't enough. 🤣You can't take fresh fruit/ dairy/ meat but we took lots of granola bars, cereal bars, cheese crackers, small squeezey squash, crisps etc! There's a little shop in the train station at the entrance to the park where we got bananas and apples. We are more McDonald's than I'd have liked but the kids were fed and it was a lot cheaper than eating in the parks.
Do treat yourself if you can to something sweet and mickey shaped though if you can, it's part of the experience!
Have a great time! It truly is magic

ipswichwitch · 24/04/2023 21:03

we went to the shop at the train station for crisps, snacks and drinks, and the baguette place opposite on our way into the parks each morning. We also took croissants from the breakfast buffet, and did pack cereal bars and sweets. We’d have breakfast in the hotel, eat whatever we had brought with us throughout the day (picnic while queueing!), then just paid for a tea time meal in the parks.

FloorWipes · 24/04/2023 21:11

Last May all the water fountains were shut I assume due to covid? Hopefully no longer the case.

ZuckerwatterMaus · 24/04/2023 21:16

Aldi do those mini super concentrated squash . Take those t add to water . They are usually at the till .

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 24/04/2023 21:17

They do still do the Robinsons squash minis

Tallulasdancingshoes · 24/04/2023 21:18

We went recently and we took snacks in hand luggage. Things like crackers, biscuits, cereal bars etc. We also took sandwich bags and took some bits from the breakfast buffet e.g rolls, pastries. I’m not sure if this is technically allowed, but loads of people were doing it no one said anything. I agree the food and drink prices in the park are absolutely horrendous. A bottle of water was about 4 euros!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/04/2023 21:19

I was there last July and the water fountains were open.

I went on eurostar so wasn't as restricted in terms of weight/bag size.

I find a full day at the park knackering.
I like to go for extra magic hours, back for breakfast if the timing works, then a bit more park then train to supermarket then back to hotel for nap, then back to park to close it down.
When the dc were small, they used to nap with me. Now they play on the switch but we're all hypermobile so it wouldn't do us any good to walk all day.

jelly79 · 24/04/2023 21:20

We had breakfast included in hotel so filled up I. The morning and took some fruit for the kids!

We took plenty of snacks over with us and they were needed!

Took water bottles we filled throughout the day

Canarias · 24/04/2023 21:24

I was appalled as not just the cost but also the quality of food there. Naively though it being France it might be marginally better. We are a family with gluten and lactose allergies (not same person). For DD a simple baguette or something would have sufficed between breakfast and early dinner. You are either forced into an overpriced fast food type restaurant or snacks at the pick and mix that seemingly have pegged their prices to the US federal gold reserve. No fruit anywhere.

It was a magical trip but honestly thought the food on-site was shocking and good idea to bring snacks from outside. Luckily it was just 2 days for us.

Hi OP, we went in December and took a massive had of snacks for us and 4 yo DD. We took mini bags of party rings, chocolate animal biscuits, individually wrapped pain au chocolate (breakfast!), a multipack of mini cheddars, a box of oaty flapjack snack bars, some funsize choc bars and a few other bits.

I was a bit 🙈 at all the sugar but you need to keep your energy up and the snacks are so expensive in the parks. They were also good for keeping g DD occupied in the queues etc.

If you’re in a Disney hotel you get free hot drinks from the machines every day - they’re dotted around in the corridols, make sure you ask at check-in.

Have fun!

You took pain-au-chocolate ..... from England, to France?! 🤣🤣

crazeekat · 24/04/2023 21:38

There's a huge shopping mall two or three stops away from the park called val deurope it's got a huge supermarket in it: go there and
Top up. They meals on Disney are horrendous and it's total shite food. Ur €6 for a bottle of water.

joleyn · 24/04/2023 22:01

FloorWipes · 24/04/2023 19:47

Think it's maybe just one hot drink per day per ticket from the machines?

I took the little Robinson's mini. Only 66ml.

We came back 2 weeks ago and it's 4 hot drinks per day per ticket, they are quite small though.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/04/2023 22:03

They will provide you with a kettle if you ask though.
I brought some teabags including fruit tea for dc.

We found that ds2's key only charged a couple of cents from his balance compared to mine. He will be adult age this time though so I wonder if that will make a difference.

MindatWork · 24/04/2023 22:54

@SteelMack No need to be sneery. DLP is hardly the gold-star patisserie hub of france, most of the stuff sold there is mass produced😂

We took a multipack of cheap pre wrapped ones because my dd likes them, they were convenient to have in the room and we were doing it on a budget.

Conductpolicy · 24/04/2023 23:02

We stayed in a partner hotel by val de Europe.
It is massive shopping center with brilliant supermarket.
It's one train stop or free shuttle from Disney.
We had breakfast at hotel and one meal in park. Usually lasagna or chicken basket. We took sandwiches and snacks in.

Conductpolicy · 24/04/2023 23:04

@Canarias. Stay off site next time.
We had a good sized fridge in our hotel room. We also had passes which then at least we're brilliant value. We had small % off any on site food.

FloorWipes · 24/04/2023 19:26

@GCWorkNightmare I think I'd have got away with it under the baby food exemption but also I think you'd have to be exceptionally unlucky to be checked

Why is that because your child can't eat French yogurt?

idontevenknowanyonecalledblurb · 24/04/2023 23:22

We just stayed at sequoia. I took: cereal bars, mini haribo, raisins, fruit winders, little chocolate lollies and those small squash squeezy bottles. I made up ham and cheese sandwiches from breakfast- took food bags to stick them in and took extra mini pastries.

The snacks really helped in the queues!

CardinalCopia · 24/04/2023 23:24

I was there in January and am back in a few weeks. No kids with us I will add so food is a little easier.

Auchon is the supermarket in Val D’Europe. I could lose a day in there.
we tend to take breakfast foods with us like weetabix etc and then buy milk and butter from Auchon.
We have a few meal reservations this time for Pyms Kitchen, Vapianos etc so will take snacks for lunch bringing crisps, tracker bars and the like from the uk as well as bottles of pop and a water bottle that hangs from my backpack to refill on park.

Had to laugh last time at a family sat around one of the picnic tables behind pirates. Mum delves in her bag and pulled out a lettuce, Dad a loaf, kids pulling out ham etc. They had an entire banquet 😂

They usually stop you taking food from the breakfast buffet.

We're staying at Sequoia. I might have a look for the Esso, that might do the trick. We do t need a lot. Just nibbles for breakfast and snacks for the bottomless pit that is DD!

The petrol station is next to Santa Fe, not Cheyenne. It’s on the same side of the canal as Sequoia.

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 25/04/2023 00:44

Free hot drinks are 1 per person per day but only for superior/luxury rooms.

The little shop at the train station is good if you need it but essential snacks like crisps, cereal bars, etc will be ok in your hand luggage.

We have always found the half board (plus)meal plan to be the best value for us overall as we eat a big breakfast, take reusable water bottles and refill at the water stations throughout the park, have some snacks in our backpack and tend to buy a few sandwiches to share and a treat each in the park each day then use the meal voucher for dinner.
