Hello, my son has just changed classes (SEN school) and his teacher has been nothing short of incredible.

I'm hoping to get her a gift that shows appreciation but not something that she'll have had 100s of.

Any ideas I'd love to hear x

One of the best gifts I ever got was a plant for my garden. When I see it, it reminds me of the lovely student who gave it to me.

I managed to find a rose which had the name of my son. She was delighted and it is still going many years later.

It sounds cheesy, but a genuine, heartfelt message of thanks means far more than anything else. Especially if it is accompanied by a similar message to the head. Teachers do the job to make a difference, and the vast majority of the feedback/parent interactions we have tell us what we haven't done right or what we need to do next. A message telling us that we have made a difference means the world to us.
In terms of physical gifts, I agree a plant or similar that reminds us of that positive message is lovely. About 3 years ago a parent gave me a set of Tisserand aromatherapy rollerballs alongside a lovely card telling me how I had helped their family during lockdown learning. It's not something I would have ever have considered buying but I fell in love with them, especially the lavender one, which I'm not sure I could sleep without now. I reorder it regularly and every time it makes me think of that message and helps me realise that despite the shit I go through every day, it's worth it. I know lots of teachers complain about mugs etc, but I feel the same way about some of those that I have received alongside lovely messages.
Basically, the gift doesn't really matter, but the message of acknowledgement does, and every time the teacher uses or sees the gift, they'll be reminded of that message and it will give them a little boost.

I used to give Oxfam schoolbag-type gifts after a teacher friend confided (drink had been taken) that the stuff is lovely but she really didn't need any more stuff! The thought of a child starting school with all the stuff they needed because of her made her very happy.
