Your favourite breeds of bird...

I've tried to categorise mine:

Regular garden birds - collared dove, very delicate and gentle birds;
- bullfinch, the male (sorry, not fair) is a great colour!

Birds of prey - barn owl, elegant and attractive;
- sparrowhawk, swift and purposeful.

Wildfowl - mute swan, clean and graceful;
- teal, brilliant colours.

Exotica - peacocks, unashamedly gaudy;
- hyacinth macaw, like all parrots, fabulous colours.

I could count the ring-necked parakeets as both garden and exotica, given the big populations in the UK. But I won't do that until I actually see one!

I actually have 2 favourite birds...
Magpies! I really do believe in the song one for sorrow...Every time I see them it comes true! I do find them comical too. We have ones trying to steal the number of our front door cheeki things 😂.
Robins! I believe the saying it's a loved one from heaven coming down to say hello and to keep us safe! Beautiful to see at Xmas time too!

CoodleMoodle · 23/04/2023 21:11

Penguins are my all time favourite. They're the funniest bird ever. I also like robins, ducks, swans, parrots and owls. DH likes birds of prey in general.

One of my DC adores peacocks and I've sort of fallen in love with them over time, too. We been to places specifically because they've got peacocks! We travelled for two hours to see some peacocks, once...

And DM has a budgie (yellow and green) and I had no idea I'd love him as much as I do, but he's the best. So so funny and sweet, and incredibly naughty! He's like a perpetual toddler. We used to have a budgie when I was little, and I remember how devastated I was when he passed away. He was my first death, I was heartbroken. I can't even think about it with her current one, and I don't even live in the same house!

Budgies!
I love them 😄😍

Always feel lucky if I see a jay or hear a woodpecker.

8roses · 23/04/2023 21:16

Robine, ravens, owls and ducks 🦆

WildRosie · 23/04/2023 21:24

I think I like collared doves because they are, overall, more refined in looks and conduct than their larger columba cousins. Wood pigeons are boisterous and clumsy but can be quite characterful. And feral pigeons come in a variety of colours and seem to be permanently chancing for sexy time! Collared doves are frightfully well behaved.

My favourites are always sparrows.

Am very fond of blackbirds.
Always think that starlings get a bad rap.
Love gulls.

Haggisfish3 · 23/04/2023 21:29

lapwing and goldfinches.

familyissues12345 · 23/04/2023 21:30

Long tailed tits are my favourite garden bird, sadly we've moved house recently and they don't visit our new one Sad. We used to have huge tall trees at the back of our old garden and less trees in the new one which I think is the reason. Love all of the tit family!

neerg · 23/04/2023 21:34

Now there is a question.

I love a nuthatch and a coaltit.
Also love a Barnowl.
Avocets are elegant.
Sanderlings are comical.
Curlews are beautifully odd.
I like the sound of an eider duck.

So many!!!!

DramaAlpaca · 23/04/2023 21:43

I love birds, there are at least fifteen different species that are regulars in my garden.

My favourites have to be the house martins, which nest under the eaves of our house every spring. Ours returned to us from their winter travels a couple of days ago and it's great to see them back.

DustyLee123 · 23/04/2023 21:44

Runner ducks

OneFrenchEgg · 23/04/2023 21:58

Coots and parakeets - although I know the parakeets are destructive and not popular but incredible to see as a little bunch

I love the sound of big fat wood pigeons

HuggingtheHRT · 24/04/2023 18:13

Wrens (so teeny tiny!)
Blackbirds (for the song)
Kingfishers (for the colour)
Barn Owls (silent, stealthy beauty.)
Penguins - if you don't love a penguin then you must be dead inside....

Perihelion · 24/04/2023 18:21

Waxwings, sparrows, collared doves, wood pigeons, my favourite visitors

Crows

Sparrowhawk
White tailed sea eagle

Emu

Therewere5inthebed · 24/04/2023 18:26

Long tailed tits, little golf balls with tails.

Buzzards, I always get unreasonably excited when I see them even though it’s a regular occurrence.

Any Corvid, love the attitude of the funky little death omens.

Robins, just because.

Skylarks, love the unashamed joy in their song.

Whatalife88 · 24/04/2023 18:57

Robins. I feed them. There's currently baby robins somewhere in my garden. Not newly hatched but starting to come down for their own food. Smaller than the grown ones and less red on the chest. Love them.

orangeflags · 24/04/2023 19:02

Seagulls. Love them.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 24/04/2023 19:03

All birds, but especially crows, owls and ducks.
