Hotel for London, without needing to remortgage

Hoping for some local knowledge please.

I have a potential weekend in London coming up and the hotel prices are eye watering. I had 2 nights central London booked at very reasonable prices booked months in advance but sadly the event(football) has changed dates

I'm thinking of staying outside of London with maybe a 20/30 train ride in and out. We would travel into Wembley and so I’ve looked around Stanmore but the prices are pushing me further afield.

Sadly it’s not confirmed until a week beforehand so free cancellation a must too!

Any advice would be much appreciated

If you want ideally to be central - The imperial hotels group around Russell Square. Hard beds and it’s a bit student (do NOT eat the food) but they are fine. Owned by imperial college.

If you really want budget, I stayed at the YHA King’s Cross recently in a 6 person dorm. £25! It was clean and surprisingly quiet

I was going to say imperial hotels - its already been mentioned - make sure you sign up to get a discount ( free to join) They have free cancellation which i have to have.

Maybe have a look at the travel lodge Wembley or any other travel lodges a few tube stops out of the center. They are usually pretty reasonable

Premier Inn King's Cross is good

The Chilterns line stops at Wembley. If you want cheap, there's a Premier Inn & a Travellodge both within walking distance of the train station in High Wycombe. It's not somewhere you'd go to for a weekend away but it would work, there are a few (mainly chain) restaurants in the town centre &, if you have a car, there's loads of lovely villages within a few minutes drive and lots of walks. It's about 25 mins from HW to Wembley, more if it's a stopping train (which it may be on a match day)
Oxford is also on that line although the hotels there may well be similar prices to London.

PubLove do converted pub hostels with private rooms.

I have also been known to book all four beds in a 4-bed dorm room before!

Travelodge in Whetstone. On northern line for central London. probably 2 buses or a 20 min Uber to Wembley

CrapBucket · 23/04/2023 20:38

Wembley and central London are totally different places. Where do you want to stay- are you going to be at Wembley most of the weekend or just for a few hours and then spending the rest of the time in central London?

ittakes2 · 23/04/2023 20:49

Are you going to Wembley? Beaconsfield is about 30mins on the train line?

Partey · 23/04/2023 20:49

@CrapBucket the match is obviously at Wembley. I’d prefer to stay centrally and travel out to wembley and back but cost is going to rule that out.

Premier Inns centrally are almost 500 for 2 nights.

I’ll check the other suggestions now, thank you all
