Heating not on (was on for a couple of hours yesterday evening).

Currently a chilly 16.5°C.

Sick of being cold 🥶

No heating for weeks 17 inside 11 outside Tiny flat though

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 23/04/2023 17:35

16.5 in the warmest parts of the house, about 13 in the coldest (kitchen and front bedroom). London, Edwardian. Have been out all day but just got in and put the heating on for an hour to take the chill off. It's always been a cold house and the weather this spring really isn't helping.

We're away so set the heating to 14 thinking it wouldn't drop below that but it's been on in the night, some nights several times. Can't believe how lousy the temperatures are looking for the next couple of weeks. Was thinking we'd be coming home to mild May temps. Doesn't look like it!

Is your heating on in an empty house ?

Floralnomad · 23/04/2023 17:37

22 in my living room , i still have the heating on most days at some point . I have a few illnesses and I can’t be cold and I can’t get up early - if I stick to those two rules I get along very nicely .

halliessa · 23/04/2023 17:38

It's 13.5, but the windows are wide open and it's sunny outside with washing drying on the line. Quite warm really.

Okunevo · 23/04/2023 17:39

14.5 in the coldest room, comfortable for us

OneCup · 23/04/2023 17:48

14.5. We wear layers...

Prettypaisleyslippers · 23/04/2023 19:06

House is 20c, we’ve had a roast dinner and baked cakes so oven has heated house. House is 7 years old and retains heat really well.

saltwater1985 · 24/04/2023 03:50

Massive variation then!

I couldn't be comfortable at 14.5°C, laters or no layers.

Roll on spring/summer!

My house is in 2 halves. Old cottage 250yr old + is cooler than the bedrooms which are completely new and has beed double insulated .

plus being 100ft above sea level, its always cooler. Central heating doesn’t warm the living room much but we gave a multi fuel stove for that .

14 degrees. Just paid BG £1000 for the quarter /Dec/Jan/Feb and now bill for March and 2 weeks of April has come through at £400.

Literally cannot afford this at all.

Heating is barely bloody on. It seriously can't continue at these prices?!

If you fancy a change to octopus here is a referral.

You can ask for money back in your account if they over estimate how much you'll spend.

£50 off your bill here: share.octopus.energy/vivid-wolf-196

Our thermostat was set to 15 over the winter, still had mahoosive bills! We have just gotten used to the cold I think. Found it cloying hot at MIL and had to have the bedroom window open to sleep at Easter.

heating has been on this morning it’s so cold still 🥶

MyMachineAndMe · 24/04/2023 07:42

18⁰C or thereabouts, but when I had to click the heating on yesterday to dry some clothes, the thermostat clicked in at 16⁰C.

TheWorldisGoingMad · 05/12/2023 22:01

My heating is off permanently because I don't want to go into energy debt. And I don't want to pay a huge chunk of my disposable income to shareholders.

I have throws over all chairs and fluffy duvets on the sofa. Fluffy sheets, and 2 duvets on each bed and a spare.

When the house is too cold, I press the 1 hour only heating button, put a timer on my phone and turn it off after 20 minutes. The residual heats works well.

I'm a bit of a control freak and don't like the unknown. This way, I know roughly what I use month, and no nasty surprises.

I would invest in spare 13.5 tog or 15 tog duvets. It's much cheaper than using energy, and you can put them away for next year.

PARunnerGirl · 05/12/2023 22:07

Scottish highlands. For about a week now it’s been getting down to -3c overnight and maybe only just above freezing during the day. Thermostat set to 18C in the hall but radiators off in the living room because I’ve been keeping the fire ticking over all day.

BananaSplitsss · 05/12/2023 22:10

Ahh man, you’d hate my house tonight. I’ve had a severe mental health panic ( won’t go into it ) but really really wasn’t good . All doors and windows were open: I was walking around barefoot in the garden. It’s been horrendous. It is horrendous ( mental health sucks )

Sorry for my input but yeah, my house is cold.

Getthethrowonthesofa · 05/12/2023 22:10

That’s quite cold op, you need to watch for damp. I get some go colder but it doesn’t mean yours is healthy, I understand if you can’t afford to heat your home ok, but if there is anything to do to try to warm it up, to try to avoid dampness, would be positive.

Laurendelaney1987 · 05/12/2023 22:11
  1. This is normal for us if the heating isn’t on
Getthethrowonthesofa · 05/12/2023 22:13

oh zombie thread.

SpringMeadows · 05/12/2023 22:36

9C. But we're in bed with the heated blanket on so it's not bad at all.
