Need an automatic 7 seater.

How old/tall are the kids? The third row seats are not very roomy, I wouldn't recommend using them on a daily basis if your kids are approaching teen years because they definitely won't be comfortable for adult sized people. We've used them for short journeys for 11/12 year olds but that's about the limit.

I hated ours and we sold it really quickly. There was nothing mechanically wrong with it but as @tonyhawks23 said it was the most stupidly designed car ever and it annoyed me no end on a daily basis.

HappiDaze · 23/04/2023 21:52

See if a Ford S Max suits your needs

Razberryberet · 23/04/2023 21:59

Sorry to crash the thread but I just brought an 08 Citroen Picasso took it out for a drive parked up turned the engine off for 5 mins when I went to turn it back on it just wouldn't do anything engine wouldn't turn over warning messages flashing up one saying anti theft faulty the key fob battery has almost run out could this be why? Had anyone else ever had this happen? I'm starting to think I've been had as it was 2nd hand.

Frightenedbunny · 23/04/2023 22:03

I had a Citroen Picasso. It became known as the shitroen as it was so damn unreliable. It used to light up the emergency fault lights brighter than a Christmas tree. It had a resounding fault that no one was able to fix and cost me over £4000 in garage repairs. Never again!!

Mosaic123 · 23/04/2023 22:06

Have you looked on Autotrader's website of used vehicles? You can put in all your criteria and price and it might come up with cars you haven't heard of?

FawnFrenchieMum · 23/04/2023 22:10

We had a 2015 from new, honestly it had so many issues over the years. It spent about 3 months of its first 12 months in garage with engine management faults. At 12 months the gear box was replaced under warranty. It cost us £1.2k for an ad blu tank at four years old. The fly wheel went just before we got rid of it, that was £900 just for parts (plus 8 hours labour!). The wing mirror casing fell off, cost us £400 for a replacement (to pass the MOT!) and that never even fit right from day one.

Stick to fords, we had a galaxy before the C4, had it to ten years old and hardly spent a penny on it. We’ve gone back to fords this time but no longer need 7 seats.

Amicompletelyinsane · 23/04/2023 22:12

We had an 09 plate. It was 3 years old when the gearbox fault occurred. It would judder along when pulling away. Would have cost thousands to fix as needed replacing
Plus every time something went wrong it cost a fortune.
Got an s max now. Although not an auto and it's great

Mosaic123 · 23/04/2023 22:14

I checked on Auto trader's website. There are a few dozen cars with between 6 and 8 seats, automatic gearbox and under £6000. Chevrolet was one manufacturer for example.

Fannyinfinefettle · 23/04/2023 22:21

Had one on motability in about 2010. Most unreliable car we've ever had. Lost count of the times it just simply wouldn't start, the first time when it was only a couple of months old. I would never touch Citroen again.

purdypuma · 23/04/2023 22:30

Might be worth looking at a Ford galaxy, seat anambra or vw sharan as they seat 7. Essentially all the same with different badges. Stopped making them now so budget might stretch further.

Nat6999 · 23/04/2023 23:28

We had a manual one when I was married, it was comfortable & fuel efficient, the only thing I didn't like was the electronic handbrake which was on the dashboard top & the position of the gear lever.

Nat6999 · 23/04/2023 23:30

A Ford Galaxy would be more reliable for a used car.

Colinorpercy · 23/04/2023 23:31

HermioneWeasley · 22/04/2023 19:55

For reliability you want Japanese or Korean cars, definitely not French or Italian

Also came to say the same.

MyGrandmaLizzie · 24/04/2023 00:12

Had one 12 years ago and it was the worst car we've ever had, so unreliable it was taken back by the lease company. Would not recommend to anyone.

Jeany1967 · 27/10/2024 18:43

I know this is an old thread but I'm looking at purchasing a 16 plate for £9.5k so I'm now seriously reconsidering. I know people will have problems with different cars but this Citroen grand picasso seems to be getting very bad reviews.

OP, did you go for it in the end? If not, what did you get? I need a 6/7 seater as we have 4 children between us.

TeaandHobnobs · 27/10/2024 18:50

My Ford S Max (65 plate) is on 94k miles and still going strong, and I’ve seen many for sale with a similar mileage, so that doesn’t scream to me that they have an unreliable gearbox (this is diesel automatic)

I have looked at the Ford C-Max and Renault Scenic. Both look comparable cars but the Citroen looks bigger with more space so that's why I was leaning more towards that. I'm now in two minds...

Had one for seven years, 2017 automatic, great car, very reliable and comfortable. Plenty of space for three car seats. Could fit seven adults. Very economical on diesel as well.

We have four children under 8 so don't need them all to be full sized but the children are quite tall.

I'm just going to start a new thread as I'm now in two minds about buying the actual car that I was going to. It's a 16 plate with one key, no service history or no v5 form. It's with a really reputable dealer who thrive on their excellent reviews so I'm really not sure about it all.

I'll look at the Nissan, thank you! I'm without a car at that moment so need one asap but the 7 seaters are few and far between in my area.
