What would you do with the Omaze house?

Just that really, what would you do with the Omaze house if you won it? I do quite enjoy checking out the houses and daydreaming about winning, but I'm not sure if I would keep any of them if I actually won. With the current Cornwall house, I think I'd definitely sell it, it's not my cup of tea at all. No garden, so not even of much interest to me as a holiday home. If I'm never going to use a house, I don't see much point in keeping it just to rent out, may as well sell up and buy something I would use. I prefer the new Cotswolds house, but I'm still not sure, I'm not keen on the outside swimming pool. That at least would need to be fenced off or enclosed, or it would be a nightmare with the dog. How many people actually keep the houses do you think? I can't decide if I should keep paying for the entry. I know the obvious answer is that I should not, because I'm never going to win, but it does offer some entertainment value, and more so than the National Lottery (for me at least). It's property porn combined with the excitement of a potential house win, plus the cash, and early bird prizes etc, with a charity donation. Anyone else enee the Omaze draws, and WWYD if you won one of the houses?

I'd sell, I wouldnt be able to afford the cost of running it.

There was a newspaper article recently about what people had done with the Omaze houses; I think only one person had actually moved in and that was the London one where the winners lived around the corner.

I know the current Cornwall one and it’s well known in the area. It is quite cut off and a long drive round if you don’t/can’t use the ferry. I’d sell it but I’m sure it has been for sale for a long time before so it might take a while.

The Cornwall one is too far away from me to be much use, really. I don't want to uproot and leave my family and friends behind, and it would be a pain to have to commute back and forward to see them, which I'd want to do. I'd probably sell it, as I can't believe something like that would rent out very easily. I might keep it for a year or so, so that friends and family could all have a holiday there - it would be a shame not to use it at all - but then I'd sell it and use the money to buy something much cheaper and give the rest to my adult children towards houses for them to live in.

I loved a recent Lake District one, and had fantasies about using it as a base for poetry-based holidays with classes and workshops by a range of poets, and maybe cookery-based ones as well. In my dreams I could do this in the summer, and live there with my husband in the winter, using the profits as income. We would have separate accommodation for ourselves (I think it had a granny flat or something) for when visitors were there. I'd thought it all through, but as I didn't win it was back to reality😀

As a resident of Cornwall?

I'd knock it down and build 3 or 4 eco homes in its footprint, to be let to local families at a fair rent. And, since it's in a prominent position, I would paint a very large sign with my opinions of second homes on and erect it in the garden Grin

We have many times stayed in Fowey just opposite the Cornwall house in Bodinnick. We were once in the pub by the ferry that is at bottom of the hill it’s on. There were people in the pub wanting to order taxi to take them back up to where they were staying as the walk was so steep! Incidentally, they were never going to get a taxi to come and do that as the nearest ones were either miles away via a country road or a ferry trip (albeit a short one) away.

I love that part of the world but I don’t think I’d want to live there all year round and that’s far more house than one needs to live comfortably. So yeah, I’d sell it

I do wonder if there's a similar issue with all the houses. Not necessarily as bad as that house that flooded, but just something that makes them difficult to sell or rent out. Not that it matters if you have to sell it for a bargain basement price, given the outlay is £10, but it could be a real faff. Maybe the lottery is just easier? I could get my fix playing the Lotto, then just looking at those fancy pants estate agent websites that only sell luxurious homes, and dream of what I'd do with £2mil cash instead.
