I've booked 5 holidays in the last 2 weeks.

And I'm a bit shocked at myself.

Up to now I've led a fairly frugal life and am now seeing the benefits with good savings and good pension that I'll be able to take in a couple of years time if I want to.

I now live alone and have an income that very comfortably covers my outgoings. There's some money put by to help DC with house deposits should I decide that's what I want to do

Anyway, I haven't really made a conscious decision to splash out, but I have (following a very difficult period in life) decided to say yes to any opportunities/invitations/adventures and all of these seem to have come together. So I've booked.

  • A week's hiking in UK on my own. I'm particularly proud of myself for this one. I'll be staying in a different pub each evening, carrying my own pack and I'm really looking forward to it.
  • A UK trip with friends to do an adventurous challenge. Long weekend
  • A trip to the med (in the autumn!) with same friends to do a marathon. Also long weekend.

-Anither long weekend for a cultural trip to a European capital I've never visited, with different friends

  • A walking holiday in the Alps with DS.

Total cost is probably about £7k, the majority of that being the trip with DS.

I'm feeling a bit weird about being so extravagant, but also proud for putting myself out there and a bit excited. It's such a change to my usual way of life! We spent 30 years doing family holidays in the UK , one week a year!

Good for you. You say you lived a frugal life so now you can reap the rewards. I hope you have a fantastic time on each one 😁

Eastie77Returns · 22/04/2023 17:15

This sounds amazing and something I hope I can do once my DC are older and I have a higher disposable income (if that day ever comes!).

Be warned though that someone jealous will be along soon enough to say it’s insensitive to talk about holidays when there are so many people suffering with the cost of living crisis.

marshmallowsforbreakfast · 22/04/2023 17:16

You sound wonderful, as do your holidays. Enjoy!

FusionChefGeoff · 22/04/2023 17:17

Wow i love the sound of all of those you're obviously phenomenally fit!!

As my Grandad used to say 'there're no pockets in a shroud'

Enjoy your well earned, well saved money

Lovemusic33 · 22/04/2023 17:19

Not jealous at all. Sounds amazing, I can’t wait to do this when my last dc leaves home (she has SEN’s so it may never happen), I am going away for a night on my own (Campervan and hiking) next week, it’s the first time I’ve done anything alone, hopefully a small taste of what I can do on a bigger scale in a few year time.

MakeMineADouble81 · 22/04/2023 17:19

Livebythecoast · 22/04/2023 17:35

I hope you have a lovely time on all your ventures 🤗

Vivalaive · 22/04/2023 17:54

Sounds amazing op- enjoy them all!

ShipSpace · 22/04/2023 17:54

You couldn’t pay me £7k to go on most of those trips, but well done anyway. You go for it!

Emmacb82 · 22/04/2023 18:15

I’m not sure a trip that contains a marathon can be labelled as a holiday - but only because I want to spend my holidays crashed out on the beach with a cocktail 🤣 but good for you! I hope you enjoy every single one of them x

You've never met a marathon runner 😆 We did the same trip last year the itinerary was something like:

Leave work Friday afternoon.
Arrive in resort head straight for the only bar still serving food. Spend so much on beer that they stay open late for you.
Next morning go into centre to collect marathon number and scope out a bar to meet in after the race.
Lunch and beer on town plazza
Find a bar to watch the football, moderate alcohol intake becuase we are doing a bit of a run in the morning
Beach and swim
Dinner and wine
Rise next day for 7am bus to race
Meet in bar after race. Spend several happy hours chatting and drinking with runners of all nationalities
Return to hotel for swim and shower
6pm cocktails
Dinner
Dancing to live band until early hours Attempt to carry at least 2 of the party home.
Next morning do the tourist thing including crazy golf
Nice beach front lunch and beer
Last swim
Evening flight back
Work next day

It really was a superb weekend 😆
