I have an upper plate with 4 teeth on it.Two front teeth and 2 back teeth.

BUMP

@rileynexttime I don't know if only the OP can "bump"a thread they've started, but I'm having a go to see if your thread can get more attention.
And, not an expert, but I don't think teeth should snap off a denture under those circumstances.

Ex DH (mid fifties) has a plate and it's constantly breaking. TBF the funniest thing was when our lurcher was running round wearing them and then crunched them to dust.

They really shouldn't break so easily . I've had mine for 15 years.

It depends on how your bottom teeth bite against them- sometimes the lab can strengthen the plastic with wire. Best ask your dentist!

My mum has a metal top denture without a covered palate, she has had them for over 50 years & only broken once when a tooth came off.

If they're looked after and were well made, then they should last years.
How are you biting down on your food? If you continually bite down with the front teeth, it can weaken them.
I tend to break a sandwich up and then chew with the back teeth to avoid putting pressure on the front ones.
Also, avoid soaking in denture solution as this can weaken them. Just brush with normal toothpaste and a babies toothbrush.

Oh no Sad

I'm sure you don't look like an old hag. Are you under an NHS dentist? Do you think the plate could be repaired?

It’s happened to my mum twice and she’s had a partial denture for 25 years so I don’t imagine it’s very common. They shouldn’t be breaking on soft foods, in mum’s case, one was a chocolate bar straight from the fridge and the other I don’t recall but it was something hard as well.

Thanks @catinboooots for your belief in my non hag like looks .I'm getting good at speaking like a football manager during a match on TV 😐

I have a fantastic NHS dentist who I hope will have time to see me after this second breakage .I think he has remarked on my bite before .He is wonderful but I'm a little worried that his expertise may not extend to denture construction .

It's trying not to be devastated by having no top two front teeth ,but it's hard .I have to go to a funeral this morning. It's not a relative but I very much want to be able to talk to the family concerned and think it will look weird covering my mouth with my hand .
