£50 to spend on DD's 4th birthday, how would you spend it

I've already bought a bicycle and paid for her birthday party hence not a fortune left over. My brother has bought her a Polly Pocket but there will be no other family gifts. She's very girly and likes princesses, imaginative play (but she already has loads - kitchen, Happy Valley, Sylvanian Families etc), dressing up and crafts. I'll probably get a bit of Play doh as that's always a winner here but beyond that I'm feeling a mixture of overwhelmed by choice and simultaneously uninspired!

Do you need to buy anything else? you could keep the money for a day out over the summer or put it in her savings account. Anything for the garden for the summer? Does she have a helmet?

carriedout · 20/04/2023 17:00

(Ugh at 'girly')

I would buy:
-books
-game
-something arty (good felt tips or crayons)
-something to do active play with (ball, golf set etc.)
-some thing like some nice socks

Then she'll have some nice bits to open.

OldTinHat · 20/04/2023 17:03

I'd pop it in a savings account for her.

Greensleeves · 20/04/2023 17:05

I'd probably do a trip to the beach/woods/nice park, birthday picnic with all her favourite things, maybe a couple of friends along.

123rainbow · 20/04/2023 17:33

I would get her some crafts that she could do in her spare time. Some girlie hair bands, books or a nice outfit for the warmer weather.

purser25 · 20/04/2023 17:41

A toy till?

bookish83 · 20/04/2023 17:44

She will get gifts at her party so I would not buy anything else and save the money in her account or use for a trip out

RaininSummer · 20/04/2023 17:46

Agree not to spend it for the sake of spending it. Maybe buy a couple of craft or science kits for something to open then if it counts a birthday money get a small money box for her do she can choose a few gifts throughout the year.

A princess outfit?

LubaLuca · 20/04/2023 17:49

A day out somewhere, assuming she already has plenty of toys and games.

Rattlethestars · 20/04/2023 17:52

Toy camera
Lego
Kinetic sand
Orchard Toy games (amazing selection)
Melissa and Doug do some lovely craft sets
Books
Stuff for the garden
Kids binoculars
Magnetic tiles
Marble run
Jigsaws

DD is 4 soon. We are looking into some of the above (also have a £50 limit as she has a lot from family so we put money into savings instead)
One thing we have got for her already is a Jenga type game from Jacques of London. They do some lovely, great quality toys.

Gingerlygreen · 20/04/2023 17:57

Does she like dancing around and gymnastics?
Out of all her presents my youngest loved her gymnastics ribbons the most and it's the only present that is still played with 2 years later, she likes to watch Olympic routines on YouTube and then recreate them in the living room.

I take the point about not spending for the sake of it but I do want her to have a few small bits to open on the actual day, she won't be getting the bike until the weekend after and the party is also a couple of weeks after her birthday to avoid the bank holidays. I think I'll go down the craft route, maybe felt tips and a craft set then.

@carriedout I'm not sure what other shorthand I'd use...she's totally different from me at that age, I was a massive tomboy. It's definitely not something I've actively encouraged!

@Iminthemoneylife she does have a helmet but you've given me the idea of a basket for her scooter, she's always asking me to carry things.

My daughter sounds the same as yours, also turning 4, and she loves these www.hobbycraft.co.uk/colour-in-cardboard-ice-cream-van-112cm/6534421000.html. There's a whole range and you get so much use out of them between painting and playing.
