Isn’t the weather usually better this time of year?

It still feels so chilly and it’s forecast to be two degrees next week in the night where I am… what on earth!

No, it’s pretty average for this time of year. It’s my birthday at the weekend and on many occasions we’ve had snow the week before. Equally it can be lovely and warm. I think it’s the variability in April which confuses people.

BarelyLiterate · 19/04/2023 19:00

I’m in the East Midlands and it has been a very cold, wet, dull ‘spring’ here. It snowed heavily on 10 March, which is the latest snowfall here for at least a decade. So much for global warming…
Today has been mild & sunny, but the forecast for next week is appalling with rain & daytime temperatures back in single figures. I’m sick & tired of shit weather this year.

OneLittleFinger · 19/04/2023 19:01

Skye - 22 degrees here today! My dd stripped off at the beach and headed into the water!

hattie43 · 19/04/2023 19:03

Yes I'm totally sick of this rain . We've had 2 reasonable days here and now it's back to cold and rain from tomorrow onwards .

motherofkevinnotperry · 19/04/2023 19:07

The wind is cold but sun is warm. I think it's colder than it should be.

Blueflag22 · 19/04/2023 19:19

April is hit and miss to be honest. Always has been. Some birthdays have been BBQ and sunscreen weather and others cold and miserable.

CatOnTheChair · 19/04/2023 19:28

Glorious here today. Go the bifolds thrown open (bit I'm under a blanket!).

Mayflower is out here too.

User135644 · 19/04/2023 19:31

The annoying summers are when it's chilly, windy and/or rainy or grey a lot of time but then when it warms up it's ridiculously hot (heat is often oppressive in the UK climate with humidity).

Temperatures in the low-mid 20s with a gentle breeze are the best and we had them a lot in 2020.

CiaoBellisima · 19/04/2023 19:34

No. Several of my Facebook memories show we had hail, sleet snow and storms on more than one year in the last 10 years.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 19/04/2023 19:42

Yes. Facebook memories has been helpfully reminding me that it's been t-shirt weather by this time of year for at least the last five years - including in 2019 when we were in Edinburgh, not the south east.

I'm still in my big coat atm. Sick of it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/04/2023 19:44

Yes, I’ve never known such a cold spring. Our flowering cherry is usually out in a week once the buds start to open - it’s taken 3 weeks this year! (Outer SW London)

Riapia · 19/04/2023 19:45

Meanwhile all true MNers are in danger of overheating and fed up with all this hot weather. Praying for the crisp autumn days.
Can’t stand it much longer.
Phew!!

pillowpuff · 19/04/2023 19:46

I honestly have felt like the winter we have just had dragged on for about a year. It probably didn't help that DC were constantly ill. I too was hoping that at April we would be getting some nice warm, consistent weather but clearly I was hoping for too much 🤣 I really hope we have some sun, as a PP said I'm not overly worried on temps but just to have sunny days would be lovely.

TheChosenTwo · 19/04/2023 19:47

I love the heat, i never complain about it!!
I don’t mind it not being particularly warm but I do miss the sunshine. keep seeing little glimmers of it here and there but overall it’s been a bit of a damp squib so far. Said to dh a minute ago I was thinking about lighting the fire, our heating is still on!

pinachina · 19/04/2023 19:47

Despite people sharing actual facts about the temperature, it still feels like the coldest April that I can remember. Bloody awful, cold and miserable, and always thick with cloud. Feels like it's been cold forever. South east.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 19/04/2023 19:56

It was sunny today (SE) but there's a cold east wind. Feels like the longest winter and I'm sooooo sick of my winter clothes😩

transformandriseup · 19/04/2023 20:01

I have always lived in Cornwall and I can say it is a lot colder than usual. I am usually in sandals by mid March and by Easter it should be T-shirt weather. This year I am still wearing a long sleeved T-shirt, light jacket and often a coat on top. The wind chill has brought the temperatures down and the sun is hidden behind thick cloud.

DahliaMacNamara · 19/04/2023 20:16

Never trust April to be warm. And there's not so much as a bud on my hawthorn yet.

Ozgirl75 · 19/04/2023 20:18

Over Easter we managed to miss the only nice couple of days here by being away in Europe - where it was freezing and rained. We left that city on a warm sunny morning and came back here to rain and cold! Damnit!
It is supposed to be nice tomorrow at least but I haven’t not worn a jumper since I moved here in January.

OhBeAFineGuyKissMe · 19/04/2023 20:25

Pretty typical April I think and acuwesther seems to agree.

Isn’t the weather usually better this time of year?
mackthepony · 19/04/2023 20:26

Spring innit

clouts n all

ErrolTheDragon · 19/04/2023 22:11

It's been quite sunny in lancashire, up to ~14°C today. There have been some rainy days but I don't think anything out of the ordinary.
Hawthorn is coming into leaf well but I don't think I've seen any flowers on it yet. Bluebells are just starting.

The wind has been cold this month which can .ake it feel colder than it is.
