If your dog sleeps on your bed at night…

Did you start out like that? (Purely curious)

we have the most beautiful working cocker spaniel who is approaching 3 years old. Initially we crate trained but by 2 years old he was very reliable/not chewing stuff so he moved to just a bed in the dining area/kitchen and at night we’d shut that side of the house off.

when we had the kitchen done, he moved to our bedroom but with strict rules that he slept on his bed (that was last summer). Since then we’ve allowed free rein of the house except the living room because the sofa is new. Generally he’d start the night on his dining room bed and part way through the night he moves to our room or the landing. That’s until March this year.

I’ve had a bad few weeks - very upset, struggling with some difficult situations etc which have meant my gp has prescribed sleeping tablets but trying to use sparingly to avoid long term issues. Our dog has become the loveliest cuddler and has begun sneaking up the side under the covers to snuggle… I allowed it and it really helped me emotionally. Now dh is keen to regain our bed so is sending the dog away when he jumps up. He seems to try roughly every hour in the hopes we’re asleep and inevitable we wake up in the morning and he’s there.

i think I’m caving… he’s so damn cute!

I’ve gone from “no dog upstairs” to having a dog on my bed! I’ve changed so much.

Did you cave or just start out with the pup on your bed? He’s a bit big really!

Ddog only smells when wet and stays in the side of the house with hard floors and no sofa when wet.

I can never forget a horrifying interview I saw with a woman whose dog slept with erand one night bit her nose off. He wasn't a nasty dog at all; perhaps she accidentally knocked into him and he woke up terrified, or perhaps he had a bad dream. It was very sad.
When my current dog was a pup, he terrified himself by waking up just in front of the danling power cable of my laptop. I think he insticts told him it was a snake attack. Anyway, he instantly blurted into snarling attack mode and then a split second later realised it was a false alarm. I don't think it would be fair on him or me to let him make that mistake right in front of my sleeping nose.

My dog is a rescue terrier. We've had her seven years.

We started off with her downstairs in the dining room, as was recommended by the rescue centre.

Through her gradually pushing her luck further and further, we are now in the situation where DP and I take it in turns to sleep in the spare room while the other one shares the master bed with the dog.

It didn't start out this way but what can you do?!

She sneaks in with me if it is cold or if there are fireworks going off but other than that, she's in her bed next to my bed.

Yes, he sleeps at either at the bottom of the bed or behind my knees if it's a cool night.
Hes a bichon/maltese X so doesnt shed. He does, however, sigh very loudly and passive aggressively if I move, turn, breathe too loudly, etc.

I have my cocker on the floor next to me all night. She’s snoring away peacefully currently

shes 12 so I know I won’t have many years left of her so we pretty much treat her like the Queen in the house

I started out intending that our dog would sleep on her dog bed but as soon as she was big enough to jump on the bed I caved Blush
