Are we now more selfish?

Just that really.

As a society, do you think we're more inherently selfish?

I'm thinking of people who cancel doing things last minute, as they need some "me time".

People who won't travel outside their own suburb, because they just need to be near home.

People who won't go out to see a grieving friend as they need to be looking after themselves at the moment.

Has this societal swing towards looking after our own mental health more meant that we are now so consumed by ourselves that we can't see sometimes others needs are more important than our "me time"?

Inherently more selfish, yes, but with worsening mental health, so whatever it is we're doing, it's not working.

Looking inwards ALL the time is not great for MH.

Maybe. I think that we all work longer hours and with less time off - emails/updates/news etc is so available it's almost unavoidable. Real time off is rare. No reserves to put into anything not immediately essential. Don't know how this will turn around at this point depressingly.

I had to cancel on a friend today as am struggling with stress and my blood pressure is up. I gave her plenty of support by WhatsApp though as she knows I am genuine. She is going through some personal crap of her own and I felt bad for letting her down.

Yes many people have little or nothing to give. I think their world has got too small and selfish. Perhaps it is their way of coping with their type A lifestyle.
