Help! Best and quickest way to get CCTV to cover my front door...

I can get a Ring doorbell via Amazon by tomorrow, but I know so little about them. It says "works with Alexa" but I dont have Alexa, does it work without?

Also, what I am never sure of with Ring doorbells, is what is to stop the miscreant simply prising it off your door and taking it away?

Is it better to have a cctv camera set up inside a window that cant be reached from outside? and how would it work? If someone tries to break in, how do you get the footage?

Never wanted this before, but someone has tried to break in twice in the last 24 hours....

Can you pay for a house sitter?

also have you got any friends with a dog that barks that they can lend you.

if you are local to me I’d lend you my pack and they would see anyone off. Where are they trying to break in?
lock the windows extra bolts on back doors etc in meanwhile - a camera set up inside?

I have found some You Tube videos of dogs a barking, and will play them very loud if anyone comes back tonight!

They tried to break down the front door. There were police on the estate earlier, so maybe I wasn't the first door they tried? I don't know. Quite alarming though.

Depending on the camera I think some don’t cope with seeing out of a window when it’s dark: my friend tried that and just got the reflection

You can a get portable cameras with ring to record to the cloud too.

Do you have a normal wired doorbell. It's easy to wire in to the existing electrics if you do. Your doorbell chime will work on it if you have one of those. I did ours.

No, I have lived here 20 years and never had any sort of door bell!

The ring doorbell comes with all the bits you need to fix it on, screwdriver etc. you'd need to screw the fixings into the doorframe.

Thanks for all this information. How often does it need charging? Also, is it possible to buy a spare battery to charge one while using the other?

Thank you

Yes, I have 2 batteries for this reason!
A charge lasts 3 months or so, you get a warning on your phone when it starts getting low. So then I charge the spare and it takes a minute to swap them over.

Yes, exactly. Although good point from PP about the dark - we have a street lamp that is on all night near our front door so we get enough illumination from that, but it wouldn’t be great in the dark.

I wanted something easy to set up, without batteries to worry about, and with no monthly storage fee. This seemed the best option for us, and I’ve been impressed so far. You do need the sync module though, or to pay for their cloud storage.

I've just recently got a ring door bell. Was £60 on Amazon. Very easy to set up, very clear pictures day and night. We've linked it to Alexa and the fire stick on the tv so it announces when someone rings it or there is motion outside (you can modify all the announcements etc). Also have the app on my phone. It has lasted about three months on first charge (but you play with it more when new which drains the battery). You can get solar mounts for it which can slow battery drainage.
