Dd1(21) has just been diagnosed after years of joint problems so I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this

I have it, diagnosed 12 years now with problems starting in my teens.
I'm on my third type of biologic injection for it and they have worked very well.
Minimal side effects and greatly relieved symptoms and reduced flare ups.
It's also important to strengthen the core to help the joints. Pilates, yoga, strength training and swimming all recommended.
I mainly do yoga at home and swim in the warmer months.
Dry heat gives great relief so if you live somewhere damp (like me) a winter trip to the sun can really help.
There is a US centric website called Kickass.org with forums if she would like to read up on experiences, with the caveat that treatment norms vary.
Feel free to pm if you have any specific questions.
Best of luck to your daughter, she can manage this and there is no reason she can't have a fulfilling and as adventurous a life as she wishes.

My Dad was diagnosed as a young man. He went through a fair number of treatments but eventually was on biologics.

He was quite a good sportsman and played (and coached) Badminton at quite a high level well into his 40s... keeping moving was very important to him, and he did not let it hold him back ..I loved watching him !

He did get stiffer in later years (passed away quite young but nothing to do with his AS) but it didn't hold him back from a good career and a good sporting life :)

My dad has it. He has always had problems with his back and I remember him using a heat lamp as well as having painkillers. He has managed to keep his posture straight but suffers with stiffness and lack of flexibility.
