Can you recommend books for a newly independent reader?

She's 7, almost 8, but we live in another country and she is educated in another language, so she's much stronger in reading that language and she is probably less proficient in reading English than an average 7 year old in the UK. She can read English but she's just at a lower level with it. Something has clicked recently and she's just started reading a lot more independently so I want to encourage her to read in English, too, but we don't own much between the preschooler picture books and more complex chapter books that I have saved from my own childhood.

She's on about the level of the Isadora Moon and Bad Kitty books in her other language, but I'm not sure she would be quite up to them in English (though I haven't seen the English versions).

So do you have any recommendations that would suit a 7 year old in maturity but maybe a bit easier to read than a lot of 7 year olds would be reading in the UK?

Maybe Flat Stanley? Tom Gates? Or some graphic novels like Dog Man?

Daisy and the trouble with... books are nice at that age.

Thanks! I will take a look at those.

I just checked the Amazon preview of the Isadora Moon books in English and I reckon actually she could just about read those. So maybe about that kind of level. She speaks English very well but she's not had much instruction on the English phonic system, just what I've tried to teach her and I've not been very systematic with it.

Fairy magic books and Daisy and the trouble with... books are really good for that age and with some support I think your daughter should manage fairly quickly
