Y3 reading recommendations

Looking for book recommendations for our 8 year old daughter who is in Y3. She's fallen out of love with reading and never sticks with long chapter books. She'd much rather play with her toys just before bed but I want to ensure her reading doesn't slip. She says she prefers fact books and short stories. Loves animals. Any suggestions that she'll enjoy? She's Oxford level 13. Thanks!

Not sure what level they are but Zoe’s Rescue zoo books by Amelia Cobb are lovely stories about animals.

Gerald Durrels books, not my family and other animals but any that are about his animal collecting like a zoo in my luggage. Although the idea of collecting animals from the wild isn't acceptable at the time , and also gives you a chance to discuss why things have changed . They are also hilarious.

Maybe try some comic style books.

My Y3 DD loves the Tom Gates series, they are funny and have a lot of doodles/not much heavy text. Also the Daisy and the Trouble with series by Kes Gray.

Sorry of these are obvious, but that age is perfect for:

Roald Dahl

Enid Blyton (Magic Faraway tree, Enchanted wood, Island of adventure series, Famous 5, St Clares, Malory Towers, Naughtiest girl series)

Harry Potter books 1-3

Michael Morpurgo books (get a box set wi the variety, she will like some more when older)

Jaqueline Wilson (Just check the subject matter, but Tracy Beaker, Cat Mummy, Lottie Project, Suitcase Kid, Butterfly club, Best friends, sleepovers are all fine)

Anything by Dick King Smith

Mr Majeika (a real winner ime)

The Worst Witch books

Anne Fine books

AND- really the BEST way to fall in love with books and reading if you ask me, is to read it together.
Snuggle up on the sofa and read her the story. Don’t make her read, let her sit back, relax and enjoy the story. Let her look and follow along with the words and pictures if she wants to. Use voices, make it entertainment for her, as happened before TV in the olden days. Fire up her imagination. Do it every night if you can, and make it the very best part of the evening. Soon she will be clamouring for a new books. And one day she will be so captivated by a story that she won’t want to wait a whole day for you to read her the next chapter…
