I think I might be addicted to coke (Cola not the drug!)

So I drink quite a lot of coke, full sugar coca cola, usually at least one can a day. I always say I'm going to stop drinking it everyday, I get rid of the last of it but if I wake up and don't have any in the house I just crave it so much and it becomes pretty much all I can think about. I end up going to one of the local shops to buy some. I prefer to vary the shops I buy it from because I'm actually embarrassed about how much I buy.

I didn't have any yesterday but had to fight the desire to go out and buy some all day and again to day I keep thinking I'll just nip out and buy some coke so I can focus properly and pep myself up a bit.

I am literally addicted to coke aren't I?

I know how you feel but my crux is cappuccinos from my machine easy have 4-6 a day. I get grumpy without it and it's all I think about. Tried to cut down but not successful yet 😫

I have drunk at least 6 cans of coke or diet coke every day for the last 20 years

I wouldn't worry about 1 can tbh... maybe switch to sugar free??

What are your teeth like?

when you find out let me know the secret - you sound like me (down to having a roster of shops so you don't feel the shame!!). I'm also like this for Galaxy Caramel.

@ChickenBurgers It is hard, at the moment I am sort of ok as I'm at home but I know as soon as I am out I'll be so tempted to just go an buy some. It has caused me weight gain also partly because I think popping into shops for a fizzy drink also encourages other unhealthy snacking habits but its mostly the cola, really want to quit.

Absolutely agree re the snacks. I’m dreadful for snacking anyway. my diet overall is appalling if i’m being honest, but popping to the shops for a drink inevitably leads me to getting a snack as well.

My 7yo wonders why I don’t let him drink it, think he’s had it less than 10 times in his life. This is why!

I hope you find a way through it, it’ll do your health the world of good and you’ll probably feel better in yourself for it too. Best of luck 🫶

I'm similar, but I've tried swapping to coke zero. I was sceptical that I would manage, but it's okay without giving me the "must have coke" feel when i don't if that makes sense.

nataliecarly1 · 17/04/2023 16:56

I think I'm addicted too, although not as bad as I used to be! I used to drink around 7 cans of diet coke a day and nothing else! One day I had none and it was hell. Migraine, sickness, muscle cramps and shakes it was truly awful. I didn't last the whole day without it though, my mum popped to the shop for me to get me a bottle and after a glass of it I felt absolutely fine and normal again. Everything stopped hurting so it must of been a kind of withdrawal situation I think. I'm now very aware of how unhealthy it was so I've cut down massively and I drink sparkling water too .

ThreeRingCircus · 17/04/2023 17:05

Could you try swapping to Pepsi Max and allow yourself one can a day? It'll be better than sugary cola at least. Then I'd try swapping Pepsi Max for lime cordial with soda water.

doadeer · 17/04/2023 17:14

What about trying something like Trip?

I don't drink alcohol anymore and I love these. Feel like a treat and low calorie.

saltedwalker · 18/04/2023 09:25

Thanks for all the posts and advice yesterday, I managed to go another full day without cola and actually slept well last night so feel a bit better today, lets hope it lasts!

It is well known to be addictive and diet coke still makes people put on weight.

I live in a country that is famously one of the major consumers of coke and also has a huge percentage of the population with type 2 diabetes.

I'm going to guess from your username and your comment that you live in Mexico.

My entire family are Mexican and yeah, Mexican Coca-Cola is the best and it's everywhere! And yes, most of my family suffers from diabetes.

I didn't want that for me so I gave it up about two years ago, cold turkey.

@elp30

I'm so sorry about your family. The good news is that if they have changed their diets, they can live a good life to a very old age, but life is much easier without that type of health problem.
