Instagram House Accounts.

margolargo · 17/04/2023 12:57

A couple of my friends, also friends in RL, now have Instagram accounts for their homes.

I'm just wondering when this became a thing? I find it somewhat of an opportunity to boast and I find it quite cringeworthy.

Every item, ornament, bed spread that is bought is documented.

I'm interested in other people's views on this.

I hate it when accounts like that start begging for brand collaborations, it soon happens!

I like being nosey at other peoples homes, but a lot of what you see on there isn't how it is day to day. My friend has one for her beautifully renovated Georgian house, however whilst on the photos it's always clean and tidy, it's often a dump when I go round for play dates with the DC!

I actually like scrolling them, I get ideas for decor, layout or organisation tips.

Don't really think too deep about what they have vs what I don't have, it's a hobby for me

dryingstuff · 17/04/2023 13:39

what annoys me about them is they kill trends as the influencers jump on them so quickly, things are much more homogeneous

ExtremelyDetermined · 17/04/2023 13:39

I like them, I follow people with similar types of house to us and decorated in styles I like to give me ideas and just for the nice pictures really. I don't know anyone who does this as far as I know though.

I love them! I'm nosy, enjoy getting inspiration and seeing how people style their homes. It's fantastic!

margolargo · 17/04/2023 13:43

I can appreciate people following, to gain ideas and to help them create their own decor.

I don't follow any apart from the people who I know, that are friends.

It's the documenting on bought individual items really, stating the cost, and asking people how nice they think the item that I'm finding a bit much.

I like them. Most of the ones I follow are Normal Size Houses (from terraces to Victorian villas) as opposed to mega mansions, so I get more ideas and more realistic before and afters.

StickyWickets · 17/04/2023 13:54

I think many people start these accounts so they can get lots of followers and then get big discounts/gifted stuff to advertise.

It's really irritating when you follow a relatable home account doing up a house on an ordinary budget and then all of a sudden they've been gifted a free 40K kitchen (DIY kitchens I'm looking at you) luxury bespoke bed (the luxury bed company) etc.

And don't get me started on the interior designers now sponsored by Sezane so not only do you have their range of home products rammed down your throat every time you fancy a scroll, its frilly blouses and sequin skirts too!

LibertyLily · 17/04/2023 13:54

I have one documenting the progress on our (DIY) cottage renovation. I have about 700 followers and follow roughly 1600 accounts. I don't think I've ever posted about items I've purchased/what they cost though. I also avoid posting pics of myself/family although there are pics of our DDogs.

Following other house and garden renovation accounts is inspiring, imho and I follow a mix of different size/style properties. I'd never expect to attract collaborations or freebies and am not keen on those that do, although I appreciate it's bound to happen with some accounts.

I don't do other social media (I hate facebook with a passion) and only a few of the accounts I follow/that follow me are people I know in real life.

It's them fancying themselves as influencers, giving advertisement to giant companies for free 🤡

I like those more than lifestyle accounts, aka posing in front of someone's rich door and pretending it's your life 😂
