Jeweller Recommendations London

Visiting London next week with friends and staying around South Bank. I want to treat myself to some jewellery in memory of my late dad. I like quirky individual jewellery and supporting independent designers. I have an old ring of my grandad’s I’d love to incorporate somehow.
Any suggestions of where to try so I can do some research and plan our time.
We have some great stuff planned already and my friends are up for helping me with mission jewellery- if at all possible- so this isn’t an issue for them. I’ll reward them with refreshment stops.
I don’t have a budget and am willing to pay for the right thing. I want something to show for my dad’s money, that he’s been kind enough to leave us, than fixing a forever leaking roof - which is what’s eating it up so far.

You could try David Ashton. He's right where you're staying, so even if it's not your thing, you won't have wasted any time. And is beautiful stuff.

He made my wedding rings 30 years ago when he had a much smaller shop nearby in Gabriel's Wharf which we loved going to on office outings for pizza or hamburgers It's all part of the South Bank which is lovely place to walk.

Have a great time and I hope you find something worthy of your dad's memory whatever you decide.

Thank you- they look gorgeous. Exactly my kind of style, beautiful colours. Possibly a bit over my non existent budget but definitely worth a closer look.
Thanks for the kind words too.

I was shocked by the prices too. He was a lot more affordable when he was starting out!

Someone I went to school with in Essex is a jeweller in Hatton Garden and makes stuff that might be more realistic in price. He re-works things too, so that might suit your grandad's ring.

He wasn't in my class so I can't remember his name, but I'll try on the old school website now and someone might come up with it sooner or later. I'll give it a go. I don't know what his work is like but if I find him you can decide.

Hatton Garden is only a mile and a bit from the South Bank on the other side of the river so do-able but not worth breaking your trip for. I will keep you posted either way. x

It can be. Hatton Garden is still the most renowned district in London for jewellery and trading of gold and precious stones. But because most of the traders are Jewish, it's dead on Fridays and Saturdays.

But it's still worth venturing over the Thames from where you're staying. Blackfriars Bridge is the easiest route or the Millennium Bridge which is a gorgeous walkway from roughly the Shakespeare Globe to St Paul's Cathedral .

Another vote for David Ashton. Made 2 rings for me 18 years apart. Every day they make me happy.

E.C.One jewellers on Exmouth Market have beautiful bespoke jewellery. Liberty sell some lovely and unusual jewellery.

Simon Lewis in Hatton Garden. Didn't have showrooms when I was last there, but made me some beautiful rings and everyone was really friendly and informative.

David Ashton gets my vote too - he made our wedding and engagement rings. I would always go back to him if I could afford it!
