What presents do you really appreciate from families of patients? Are biscuits/chocolates a good idea or is there something better than that?

I got a HUGE load of fresh fruit, dried fruit and posh vegetable crisps

The nurses said it was lovely to have healthy stuff to pick up rather than junk

No nuts!

I did sneak in one pack of biscuits though!

Also a card. We can use any feedback in our revaluation.

Ex NHS HR Director - staff are grateful of any gifts but they get so many it can become an issue. We had many of them feedback that so many boxes of chocolates and biscuits etc were causing them issues with weight/fatigue from all the sugar crashes. Those who didn’t want to eat them
found themselves being “persuaded” to by others. (60% of them were females of potential menopause age so it was significant.)

We did a trial of putting little mini tubes of hand cream and foot cream in there and they much preferred that.

So personally I wouldn’t. Maybe some fancy instant coffee and fruit tea bags instead? Or a fruit basket? Or toiletries?

Thank you, we have sent a thank you card to the first ward my dad was on but he wasn’t on there long enough for us to know the names of staff.

Does a complimentary email to PALS help individual staff?

thanks for the tips - a friend who was a school teacher became overwhelmed with chocolates which is what made me reluctant to go down that route!

Yes, they usually forwarded to the ward manager who forwards it to the team. Or you could email the ward manager directly?

Biscuits/chocolates/individual sachets of frothy coffee and hot chocolate.
We were once given a posh soap each, those French ones, and a small hand cream.

A card for the individual nurse really helps with Revalidation.

I had some very good treatment from a consultant and respiratory nurse so I sent them a card. The next time that I saw the consultant, she said that she had given the card to her nurse. I hadn't realised that the card would be useful to the nurse and am pleased that I sent it.
