What is ONE item that changed dramatically and surprisingly your home life for the better

Looking for inspiration to start the process of tidying up (all aspects of) my life.
I already posted another thread related to this.
As an individual, I am very organised and perfectionist. I love order, cleanliness and tidiness. BUT, my house/ life rarely looks the part. I want to sort out my life once and for all so that it is always either spick and span or easily back on track.

On this thread I'd like to ask you what is ONE item (big or small/ expensive or cheap) that, when you acquired, changed your home life for the better so dramatically and surprisingly that you honestly wonder how you were able to cope before it graced your life.

When my kids were small the eldest had patterned socks and pants and the youngest had plain socks and pants

Mine is very obvious, but a large 3 compartment laundry bin.
Used to wait till the weekend to do the laundry as it involved a lot of 'sorting' which I didn't have time for during the week. Which led to a sort of traffic jam of drying every Sunday.
Now once a compartment (lights/ colours/ delicates) is full I can just chuck it in whenever !

Oh yes and a cordless dyson - v15 or above (the older ones have shit suction)
Makes dusting the house light work !

Oh I adore these threads.
I have a few. My number one is a cordless stick vacuum. Mind us dyson but there's plenty. They are so easy and kids can manage them with ease. The not have to deal with the flex makes you vacuum much more.

Doing a room reset every day - easiest in the living room but I try and do it in all of them every day.

Making rules that the kids have to deal with their kit/pack lunch box/any items the second they walk through the door before they are allowed to do anything and they must put their stuff in the dishwasher utility room etc themselves and hang their cost up and then get changed. This helps a lot.

Getting hello fresh for a few weeks really boosted my cooking repertoire.

Dp got me a juicer from Amazon for my birthday it's an Amzchef - it's so good very easy to clean and juices anything - I have a child with digestive issues it's helped a lot.

Henry hoover.

We’ve had all the bells and whistles dyson ones in the past. All shit.

I just wanted a big tube that sucked things up. Which is what Henry is.

A freestanding larder cupboard from Etsy. Now I can see all my tins, cereals etc easily so I always know what I have and never run out. I got 2 in the end, look beautiful too.

Could you share a link, please? @shivermytimber

Two baby guinea pigs. They don't make our lives cleaner, cheaper or simpler (the opposite to all 3!) But the DC actually talk nicely to one another while they're interacting with the guinea pigs. DH sits and cuddles them adoringly late at night.

More dogs. Every day is a joy!

lostinabook · 31/01/2024 22:29

More laundry baskets. In fact I bought 3 identical one and when sorting clean laundry there is one for each person and that basket then goes on their bed for putting away (or if you are my DD using clean stuff straight out of it)

I have 2 larger ones that I use for the dirty laundry and dragging in the ASDA deliveries

We have a paper box (pretty, takes A4, has a lid) The post gets opened and anything that needs dealing with gets put in there, receipts are also decanted and any other paper lying around gets tidied into it. DH and I deal with it once a week. Pay bills, file, recycle, etc.
