My eye keeps twitching

Is this stress or tiredness or a normal part of life? How do I get rid of it I've had it for days. Or is this just what happens when you make it through the Easter Holidays with young dc?

It happens to me when I am tired and stressed. Sleep makes it stop.

Flavabobble · 16/04/2023 17:35

I used to get it when I was pregnant.

I need to try and explain this to my 4yo who wakes me up every night.

Tiredness and stress, annoyingly when I get it and look in the mirror there's hardly anything to see.
I want to see evidence, just like when I bang my shin, I want a big black bruise to show for how I have suffered.Smile

MaverickSnoopy · 16/04/2023 17:42

Tiredness. I get this when I'm really tired.

whirlyswirly · 16/04/2023 18:02

I've got this at the moment and I've just been on holiday. There is something stressful going on though so that makes sense.

It feels like it must be really visible but isn't when I look in a mirror. Happening every hour or so. Never had it before.

Kingdedede · 16/04/2023 18:07

I’ve also got this - tiredness.

ClumsyCat · 16/04/2023 18:18

I used to get it from over-exercising. Also my eyeballs would shudder from side to side.

astridforty · 16/04/2023 18:20

It can also be a sign of impending Bell’s Palsy - in my experience at least. More likely tiredness though.

BotCrossedHun · 16/04/2023 18:34

I get it if I'm about to get conjunctivitis (and sometimes during). Maybe it's stress/tiredness that leads to them both, or just stress on the eye or something

lurkingfromhome · 16/04/2023 18:35

I actually had this for a full year once. Every single day for a year. Drove me mad. Coincided with a time at work when I was proofreading very detailed reports quite intensively for months, so I put it down to tired eyes.

Read ages ago that having a banana can help - think it helps boost potassium levels

RampantIvy · 16/04/2023 18:38

Tiredness. I get this when I haven't had enough sleep.

ThoseDamnCrows · 16/04/2023 18:55

Magnesium tablets, or magnesium salts in your bath.

dizzydizzydizzy · 16/04/2023 19:36

I had it the other week. It happened quite often over the course of 2 or 3 days and hasn't happened since.

Magnesium tablets, or magnesium salts in your bath.

Don't overdo it as magnesium has a laxatve effect.

YolayCaprese · 16/04/2023 20:19

It's tiredness and as I'm long sighted my bottle bottom glasses make it very obvious to observers!
More sleep, less caffeine, moving your body outside all help. Could you sleep in with your child so your sleep isn't broken? Still sleep with mine! Good luck

Alighttouchonthetiller · 16/04/2023 20:25

I had this for months after a period of intense anxiety, and it still happens now and then. I am like twitchy Capt Darling from Blackadder when it starts up. It has mostly settled down- I reduced caffeine, went to bed early and tried to just generally slow myself down.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 16/04/2023 20:30

I was getting them quite a bit before my week off

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 16/04/2023 20:34

Tiredness, stress and the excess caffeine that I drink to deal with the tiredness.

A good nights sleep cures it but is also pretty much impossible to get sometimes which causes excess caffeine drinking which causes poor sleep and it's a vicious cycle.

fetchacloth · 16/04/2023 20:46

Being tired is likely the reason.
I suffered badly with this a few years ago at the start of the menopause and I take a daily magnesium supplement which has reduced the symptoms. 😁
