My 5yr old speaks incredibly loudly most of the time. They're also constantly rambling and chatting. It's embarrassing. It's practically yelling. In the car, in shops, in restaurants. Not only does it drive me nuts, but I become self conscious when I'm around friends, and anyone else in the vicinity that is effected by the constant chatter and loudness that come from my DC.
I have to constantly remind them that we need to use indoor voices, but it doesn't 'stick' for more than a few minutes. DC had grommets fitted a year or so ago and all hearing tests are clear and good, so it's not linked to the inability to hear.
I have diagnosed ADHD and am quite possibly autistic as well, so I find the constant chatter and loud noises extremely draining - especially while trapped in the car with both of my children and the noise is even louder.
I have done a quick google about loud speaking toddlers and children and a few results came back suggesting sensory processing disorder. DC doesn't like really loud noises, and is a somewhat picky eater (but young children often are) but aside from those the majority of the symptoms associated with SPD are not an issue.
Has anyone had experience with a child who has Sensory Processing Disorder? Does this sound like it could be the issue for my DC? Any other suggestions what the issue could be that causes constantly loud speaking in children?
I'm at my wits end with this. Will it get any better with age?
