Anyone want to help me with something IKEA related and very, very silly?

My adult ds loves IKEA meatballs. I have found a recipe for all the component parts, and next time he visits, I want to give him a "meatball kit." to take home with him. So I need clever IKEA type names for meatballs, mashed potato, gravy and cranberry sauce. Any ideas?

Sllabtaem.

During Lockdown IKEA released their own recipe and instructions in IKEA style...

(Ps.. Cranberry? Swedish DH would be horrified. It should be Ligonberry for authenticity but appreciate it's harder to come by).

I dont know about a name but you should give him instructions ( recipe ) in Ikea style

1, insert component A into receptacle B
2, distribute part C into component A

3, formulate component A into spheres

( put mince in bowl , add herbs , shape into meatballs )

Or draw a exploded diagram that is impossible to figure out which bit to do 1st .

print instructions in tiny font and eleventybillon languages

Why don’t you just get all of the stuff from the ikea food section? They have all the components there complete with names!

lingonberry not cranberry!

FettleOfKish · 16/04/2023 12:31

Spoke to DH (asked him to make it for us this week, inspired by this thread Blush) and he's anxious to make sure you're getting the right recipe for the 'gravy' by searching for 'brunsås recipe'.

He also advises that Ligonberry sauce can be bought at IKEA or on Amazon, and that some Swedish families substitute it with picked gherkins instead for the same sharpness to cut through the sauce.

I expect you know this OP but they sell all of these frozen to take home in the food market at IKEA. You can buy bags of frozen meatballs, frozen mashed potato, the gravy, their lingonberry sauce etc.

We tried the homemade recipe for a bit of a laugh during lockdown and it really wasn't the same, definitely wouldn't bother doing it again. When somethings your favourite I find it never compares when you recreate it or someone else does, albeit the thought is obviously very nice.

I'd get an ikea voucher and make a joke of it by saying it was a years worth if meatballs. Do it up in a meatball themed package or something.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/04/2023 13:12

I'd probably just buy it all from ikea, I doubt it's much cheaper to make it yourself.

banivani · 16/04/2023 13:18

I’m irrationally triggered by PP misspelling lingonberry. 🤓🇸🇪

Open google maps and pick random place names, that’s how IKEA does it. ;)

Tärnaby
Romme
Sveg
Skurup
Grums
Säffle
Skärplinge
Töreboda
Munkfors

I make my own gravy (can send you the recipe if you'd like it but it can also be Googled "ikea meatball gravy") but they also sell packets of dry powder to make it

FettleOfKish · 16/04/2023 13:31

@banivani Sorry BlushBlush

CurlewKate · 16/04/2023 13:51

I know I can get it from IKEA! But I thought it would be more fun to make it and pack it up like a a ready meal. And I know it should be ligonberry- but I have cranberries and I don't have ligonberries! I'll cook it- so I just need to do IKEA type reheating instructions. I like the idea of using random Scandinavian place names....

Is this like when you like bath bombs and someone buys you a bath bomb making kit? It's never as good, and it's a hassle. If it's a gift, why make him do the work?

Seriously just buy him a few bags of them, a few packets of the gravy and a jar of the jam.

aimingforthesky · 16/04/2023 13:59

Use your family names spelt backwards with dots above the first vowel. Kräm, Nösila and Nhöj.

CurlewKate · 16/04/2023 16:13

@GalileoHumpkins that's brilliant! I missed it earlier!

@aimingforthesky I love that idea! He and his housemates are Kcirtap,Amimej, Nalced and Nad.🤣

They will not taste as good. The IKEA meatballs and sauce and relish/jam should not be copied

CurlewKate · 16/04/2023 17:19

@LapinR0se "They will not taste as good. The IKEA meatballs and sauce and relish/jam should not be copied"
🤣I'll let you know! It'll be fun anyway.

This thread has just reminded me that I have Ikea chicken meatballs in the freezer. I have one of those little satellite Ikea shops near me, it has a freezer with a small selection of Ikea food and a shelf amply stocked with mini Daim bars. In a way it's better than a proper big shop as I can be in and out quickly and I'm not tempted to buy a load of furniture that I don't even need.

I'm off to pre-heat the oven. Grin

CurlewKate · 16/04/2023 17:50

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar Glad to be of service!

I am glad I make sense to you , I baffle many others 😜.
Don't forget to include a random ingredient that is not needed so he has something left over at the end .
