Yes, always. All curtains/blinds get closed as soon as it gets dark.

blahblahblah1654 · 16/04/2023 07:35

Yes to keep the heat in, and I don't like the idea of people being able to see. Our lounge and bedroom are right outside a main walkway.

poppettypop · 16/04/2023 07:36

No we don't close the curtains at night. In the bedroom, we slightly close the blind as we like to have the window open.

I am mega fussy how my curtains hang so like to leave them in situ for aesthetic reasons .

CaptainMyCaptain · 16/04/2023 07:40

I couldn't sleep if there was any light coming in and I would wake up at the crack of dawn.

Caspianberg · 16/04/2023 07:40

Only in the bedrooms so we don’t get woken early by light. I only have curtains tbh in living room otherwise and they stay open all year except if hot and I want extra shade.
No curtains or blinds on any other room.
We don’t really get people walking past house windows due to location and it’s on hillside so even someone walking up driveway would only be at raised cellar level

Sprig1 · 16/04/2023 07:41

Never, we live rurally and aren't overlooked.

DustyLee123 · 16/04/2023 07:43

I shut my curtains as soon as it goes dark, to keep the heat in. I still use the blackout blinds in bedrooms, left over from when the kids were little.

Blanketpolicy · 16/04/2023 07:44

Bedrooms we use black out blinds so dont pull the curtains.

We dont bother pulling curtains downstairs. Our living room is at the back of the house and then the garden backs onto a field so noone to look in. Kitchen/my office is at the front but we are in quiet cul de sac and the only traffic after dark is people pulling in and out of their own drives.

Oncetheystartschool · 16/04/2023 07:44

Only in the bedrooms for sleeping. Would close the living room curtains if it was dark outside and I was watching tv but we're not overlooked and have no need to close any other curtains for privacy.

EstherHazy · 16/04/2023 07:44

I like my curtains open - I only draw them on the very coldest of nights or stormy weather - I like to have the natural light come in and often have the window open a crack even in winter. I'd probably sleep til midday if the light didn't come in now!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 16/04/2023 07:52

As soon as it gets dark. I hate the thought of somebody outside being able to see me but I can’t see them. There isn’t much footfall outside my house but it still bothers me.

proppy · 16/04/2023 07:54

yes always in every room. Mainly for warmth, don't like looking at the dark & blocking the light I do remember reading that it was better to shut them as a deterrent for stalkers but that was decades ago.

Me too.

alabamathunderpussy · 16/04/2023 07:58

I didn't until the house was broken into. Then felt incredibly stupid for making it so easy for intruders to see where everything and everyone was

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/04/2023 07:58

We have always closed them upstairs and downstairs to keep the heat in and maintain privacy.
My neighbours across the road never close their curtains and have their lounge in the front of the house. I can see what they are watching on their large screen TV and everything else if I stopped and stared.

Bakinhappy · 16/04/2023 08:02

We're in a new build and haven't been able to afford curtains yet. DC have somein their room but thats all we have.

Its a rural house and set well back from the quiet road we're on so I'm not worried about anyone looking in.

ExtremelyDetermined · 16/04/2023 08:03

Yes but not all the windows have them, only the ones that are overlooked. Mainly for privacy, we don't have thick curtains as we like natural light coming in, I can't bear blackout and we have new windows so they don't lose too much heat.

AndrexPuppy · 16/04/2023 08:06

Yes.

My mother doesn’t though.

Mistymornin · 16/04/2023 08:08

Living room curtains get closed when it becomes dark. In the bedroom, I always leave about an 8 inch opening, as I cannot sleep in a pitch black room. My younger son is exactly the same!

TransparentVision · 16/04/2023 08:10

Rarely. We have open farmland at the rear of our property and the properties across the street at the front are not overlooking us.

ginsparkles · 16/04/2023 08:10

We close the blinds in the living room but I like to sleep with the curtains open.

This..

Natsku · 16/04/2023 08:12

I close the blinds in the lounge (usually late afternoon as the sun comes in blinding through the windows!) but don't bother with the kitchen or playroom blinds. Bedroom blackout curtains get shut at night so we can sleep. DD never even opens her blinds.

catwithflowers · 16/04/2023 08:17

Our bedroom yes, to keep the heat in (single glazing, listed building). The rest of the house no except in winter, again to keep rooms warmer.

RampantIvy · 16/04/2023 08:17

Of course we do. For these reasons ^^ and because closing the curtains (cream coloured) makes the room feel brighter. We have patio doors leading to the conservatory at one end of the living room and a window at the other end. So having a huge expanse of black across both ends of the room makes it feel dark and dingy and cold.

I feel exposed and vulnerable with curtains open when it is dark outside.
