New Kitchen

We need a new kitchen but it's going to be pricey so don't want to waste money.

Can people share things in their kitchens they couldn't live with out?

I'm also trying to work out whether to stick with eye level ovens or switch to a range style thing?

I'd also really like a breakfast cupboard too!

I'm feeling really overwhelmed about it all!!

Love my corner larder cupboard, no wasted space at all. If you have an island don’t put a sink on it as it will always look “busy”. We indulged in a Bora induction hob with down extraction so no need for an extractor fan - love it. Also went for eye level ovens - future proofing for when we are older. Also love our breakfast cupboard.
Go to a few places and look around and get plans drawn up. We ultimately didn’t use them because we didn’t want to deal with different suppliers but The White Kitchen Company gave us the most original plans and our final kitchen was based very much on some of their ideas.
Don’t be afraid to say no that doesn’t work to a designer, it’s your space and you know best.

I love our corner walk in larder unit too.

We went around a local huge wren kitchen showroom and ikea. We knew we weren't buying from there, but the layouts gave us ideas for colours, storage solutions etc.

We have a huge island with a sink to one side. I didn't want the hob there because the down extractors take up space underneath. Instead on the 'hidden' side of the island we have our dishwasher and a pull out bin drawer.

We used wall cupboards to build our island so we have 3 'hidden' cupboards behind the stools that are used for Xmas / entertaining stuff.

Pull out larder cupboard definitely. We also have pull out storage, I've attached a pic.
A pan drawer is also a god send, we have 2 and they are brill.
One of our best luxury items is a smart fridge freezer, it has a screen on the front and you can search for recipes, put the radio on etc on it but the best thing is we can have it showing family photos like a digital frame, I absolutely love it and everyone comments on how nice it is.

Pull outs can waste space quite a lot.

Ours is just 2 doors that open to huge corner shelves floor to ceiling. It's amazing for storage. It's only ever close to full at Xmas.

PilshardPillToSwallow · 15/04/2023 08:56

We have that pull out thing in our corner and it's wonderful.

Op it is over whelming. Go and book some appts like ikea, homebase and you will start to get a feel for it all. Then look at DIY kixthens.
Many people on here rate them as do I.
Don't rate howdens at all.

PilshardPillToSwallow · 15/04/2023 08:57

I adore our draws, everyone haw drawers now though and wished I'd had space for larder. Also rate the induction hob over gas.

Have a look at DIY Kitchens really good prices.

Always drawers not cupboards in base units. All space is accessible and nothing gets lost at the back. Wire drawers inside a cupboard work too.
I have an upward folding door on my wall unit. It's directly above my dishwasher so I can put things away so easily and don't have to worry about banging my head.
Corner larders are fantastic but if you haven't got the space the pull outs are again great for being able to use the full depth
Pull out unit with 2 bins for general rubbish and recycling is fab.
Work out how many sockets you need then double it and add a few more. Get sockets with additional USB points where you might need them.
And I second DIY kitchens they're great (and if you visit their showroom they have free coffee and cakes) They have a great online design tool so you can play around with ideas too.

We have a breakfast cupboard and it is great. and keeps the toaster and coffee machine out of sight. Shelves above for coffee cups and cereal, drawers below for bread, pastries, cakes and preserves. All behind concealed doors.

daffodilandtulip · 15/04/2023 11:10

I did mine last year and it's ridiculous but I still get excited about my built in bins 🤣

MiningForYou · 15/04/2023 11:11

We got under the cabinets lights and have NEVER used them. Complete waste of money.

The boiling tap on the other hand - amazing

Just having one done today at mums from DIY kitchens and apart from one damaged door has been a great company to deal with
