Nurses strike

Hi all, just wondering if someone could explain the next stage of the strike to me. I know Unison members have accepted the deal but RCN members have rejected. So this means that the RCN nurses will go back out on strike. But do the RCN and Unison both have to accept any offer before it can be implemented - Agenda for change - how will it all work?
Thank you!

I have no idea how it's going to work. I've just seen the news now. It's going to get very ugly...

Never thought I'd see the day when the RCN vote to strike, let alone when Unison don't.

I have no idea what the answer is OP.

RCN nurses in the nhs will next strike 8pm 30th April to 8pm 2nd May, this time it will include critical care nurses, but only in the Trusts where the majority chose to reject the deal. These nurses will then continue to strike this year until a better pay offer is made.

I don’t think Unison nurses will strike(?) but maybe they can in those Trusts.

But I don’t see how Unison can receive the pay offer. Thats assuming Agenda for Change won’t be updated on the basis that the offer hasn’t been secured. There is some hope of still having the bonus.

Thats a very good question though…

Do all unions have to accept an offer before it is implemented?

*correction:

The unions are now waiting to hear from the government as to whether the current pay offer will be implemented or not.

After the next strike (end of pay year 2022-23), the RCN will conduct another ballot for a further 6 months of strikes….If more than 50% vote yes (minimum 51% turnout), presumably there could be more strikes April to October-ish.

The pay deal offered was for all staff on agenda for change and not just nurses. So I have no idea how it will work as it seems that Unison who represent all NHS workers have accepted but the nursing union hasn't.
There are still other unions that need to announce their votes though, Unite haven't had their results yet.

No idea! It's incredibly confusing. The RCN and Unison both used fear tactics and the RCN used a vague suggestion that there could be a different pay scale for nurses in the future as a lure which is probably why there were differences in the votes.
