NHS pay rise ballots

Does anyone know what happens if not all unions vote the same way? Unison have voted to accept but it's looking like the RCN might reject (and RCM ballot doesn't close for another 10 days). They can't give the pay rise to some staff groups and not others, but it also wouldn't be fair to withhold it from groups who have voted to accept. Is it possible the government could award the payrise to nurses even if they vote to reject the deal? I assume the RCN would then ballot again regarding strike action 🤷

The majority of unions need to agree, I believe. But I don’t know if membership numbers influence it

Really hope everyone else rejects the offer. Then I’ll be leaving Unison.

I am really disappointed with the Unison result.

I’ve just had an email from RVN to say that the pay offer has been rejected with further strikes arranged.

RCN obviously

I am absolutely shocked at the unison result.
I'm not usually a conspiracy nut but there is no way.

I'm cancelling my membership for unison to jump ship to unite as soon as.

I believe. Not sure if it goes on membership numbers though?

Battlecat98 · 14/04/2023 17:17

I am RCN and also said I would leave if we accepted it, I was surprised that Pat Cullen recommended it to us. I think the government can still award the pay offer though, although other unions will still strike for a better deal.

sighsloudly · 14/04/2023 17:24

This is what happened in wales rcn rejected but the other unions accepted. So they went with the accepted with the proviso that if English nurses got more then the would match that pay deal

I'm a bit torn. In some ways I just want the money in my pocket now, but on the other hand I don't think it's fair if just the nurses keep striking and potentially ultimately get a better deal for everyone.

The money in your pocket now isn't worth the paper it's printed on though. The one of payment bribe after tax and pension will be pennies for me and many others who can only work part time hours due to sole caring responsibility for children. 700 pounds won't get us the new sofa we need, or a holiday or the decorating the needs doing badly. And then for years after the 60 odd pounds monthly after tax won't pay for the increase in gas and electric council tax and food. Nowhere near. We are struggling now we will still struggle with that paltry offer let's go the whole hog and get not just what we need but what we DESERVE

RenegadeKeeblerElf · 15/04/2023 00:02

Do you really think a better offer is out there? I agree pay could be better, and needs to be in order to attract the workforce we need, but is that realistic?

Of course there is. The government always finds money for what they deem important. Contracts for their mates, tax breaks for the wealthy pay rises and questionable expenses allowances decorating their homes . The list is endless. They need to know that the nhs is very important to people in this country and that this issue will basically decide their future as a government
