Do charity shops want/accept DVDs anymore?

Having a clear out

Would my local charity shop thank me for donating old DVDs or am I better just to take them to the dump?

Some do, some don't. You would really have to ask the individual shop.

Needmorelego · 14/04/2023 14:10

Alternatively if they are newish ones then you might get some money selling them at CEX or Music Magpie etc. Might be pennies but if you have a lot it might add up.

Appalonia · 14/04/2023 14:15

I had 2 bags of dvds I tried to take to charity shops recently. They all said they were no longer accepting them. I guess some might but seems like they are hard to sell these days. I tried magpie but they only offered 12p each!

Some of the oxfam shops are dedicated to music/dvd's?

StopFeckingFaffing · 14/04/2023 14:19

Thanks

They are all quite old as we haven't used the DVD player for years and I'm not interested in selling them

I'll check with our local hospice shop and if they don't want them then I'll dump them

We have a few local shops that take them

Needmorelego · 14/04/2023 14:22

@StopFeckingFaffing another alternative....put in a cardboard box outside your home with a "Free" sign on them. Some might get taken.

AiryFlyingFairy · 14/04/2023 14:25

I hope so. I dropped a big bag of various items clothes, books, cds & dvds to our local charity shop recently. I didn't ask but assume they would want them.
I still see cds & dvds for sale in most charity shops.

OhMyCherriePie · 14/04/2023 14:30

I would just offer them for free on Facebook. I noticed cex paying 1p for dvds 😂

seagulldown · 14/04/2023 14:30

Our local tip/recycling centre has a section for DVDs and CDs. They then get sorted out, some end up for sale at local charity second hand shop or get recycled.

Free on Facebook marketplace, ask at old people's homes or if there is a fine spell put them in a box on the pavement with a sign saying 'free to a good home'.I had lots of interest last year in DVDs and videos. Our GP surgery and the local hospital take donations of books and dvds to raise money for sundries, you might have a similar set up.School fete or school library might also be worth a shout depending on the content.

Just shove them on freegle it's car boot season soon someone will have them especially if you put ideal for car boot in your title

tailinthejam · 14/04/2023 14:40

It tends to be the small local charity shops that take them in my experience.

The other alternative is the car boot sale.

justanotherdrama · 14/04/2023 18:07

I had a load and just put them outside the house with a sign saying help yourself and they all went!! I tried 3 local charity shops nobody wanted them
