Help me chose my car!!

I need to order a new lease car pronto! Currently drive a full electric Ioniq.

My choices are (all electric)-
*Peugeot 2008 GT £386pcm 212 mile battery range. BHP136.
*Renault Megane equilibre £386pcm 280 range. BHP 217
*Renault Megane techno £402pcm 280 range. BHP217

I have 3 kids- 2 teenagers, 1 KS2.

Long journey to London every few months which I can do on any of these ranges. Driving to Holland this august but will be a one off.

My drive way is quite narrow.

Thoughts- getting the cheaper option saves me £190 pa. Peugeot is nice and narrow for parking. Spec for the cheaper two options are basic whereas the techno is a decent spec. Not driven a Peugeot before and note sure about it.

Watched about 673 review videos and my brains mush.

Help please!! Confused

Gut instinct id go for the techno - but that’s based on me recently buying an almost but not quite the spec level car I wanted recently - turns out I really liked the heated seats that I lost so I’d always go for the highest spec I could afford.

Head says how much is the difference over the lifetime of the lease £190pa doesn’t sound like much but over 3 or 5 years it adds up.

Also how much time do you spend in the car? If it’s regularly 10 mins with the occasional London trip - go for cheap. If you’re regularly in the car for an hour or more at a time - pay the extra.

Silly question but have you driven that Peugeot? I hired a 308 and there was literally no way o could sit comfortable and see the speedo because it was poorly designed and I've seen a few people say that.

Is it definitely out of just those? If you go for the Renault, go for the higher spec one as it's not even £20 (assuming it is higher spec, I don't know much about the new Renaults)

Hiring always seems so expensive. M&S have the cheapest loan currently. Why not buy?
I've just bought a 2019 Mazda 3, at £14,000 and my loan is £260 per month. Total cost just over £15k over 5 years.

I wouldn't go for the Peugeot. 212 miles isn't great for the money compared to the range of other similar cars. What you save in monthly payments you could easily spend in charging at public charging with needing more frequent stops. I guess it probably seems a lot compared to the Ioniq but lots of cars now offer more.

How far is your trip to London?

Have you looked at the ID3 and the Cupra Born? What were your reasons for shortlisting the 3 you have?

shutthewindownow · 14/04/2023 08:08

Why would you throw away that amount of money on a car that's never yours ? Get a loan for a second hand car with low mileage and pay it over five years. The repayments will be less and you will own the car in the end.

Is this a work lease or personal?

I second questioning how you've come to that shortlist as I'd never expect anyone to choose one of those from their own free will.

There's a good podcast at the moment called Mel's electric adventure. I've only listened to a few so far, but she really liked a VW one and a Tesla.

But if it had to be one of those 3, I'd go for the higher spec Renault, unless I didn't actually want any of the extras - that's what I use to decide once I've chosen a make/model - which is the lowest spec/cheapest that has everything on I want (sometimes if buying a new car if there's only one thing missing from a basic model its cheaper to add it as an extra rather than going for a higher spec but when leasing list price and lease price doesn't always line up as it's based on depreciation as well as value of the car, but you have to account for BIK tax too).

I have an e2008 (2022 model)

it’s lovely to drive, nice features etc, but if you need to do anything apart from local trips I wouldn’t recommend it.

The 212 mile range is nothing like. On motorways it’s around 100-120. A full charge on my battery now is 190 miles (after 12k miles and a year). You only get the advertised range if you’re driving in eco mode on shorter journeys.

I drove an electric Captur whilst abroad and the range was much better so I’d lean towards Renault.

I do love my peugeot but I drive DHs car for anything over a 100 mile round trip!
