Really really cold

I've always been a cold person. Went to the doctor's about it as a kid but he wasn't interested. Since having kids I bought an ear thermometer and my temperature is always lower than the kids. I really suffered this winter become we couldn't afford heating and I work from home. 5 or 6 layers and a blanket over my legs ever day. I think I experienced Raynaud's for the first time too. My Fitbit measures my average heart rate as 59 - 60 which I thought was a good thing as high blood pressure is bad right? But Google tells me my heart rate is on the not good low side.

What can I do? I'm always really cold. My kids laugh at my hands and nose being so cold all the time. I got an Oodie for my birthday and an electric blanket for Christmas but my hands and nose are always so cold. How can I generate my own heat from within?

Heart rate isn't the same as blood pressure but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a heart rate of 60 beats per minute.
I can't answer your question I'm afraid!

You’re not going to like this…. But I swear it works!
cold dipping / cold therapy.
has completely changed my inner thermostat and I now run warm instead of always being cold.

Also google cold therapy and raynauds, studies showing it helps heal it.

I feel for you as it’s horrid always being cold, used to make me feel quite ill.

Once you get into cold dipping it’s really addictive and you get a good buzz from it.

Watching - I'm the same. My resting HR is in the 40's which is apparently not a medical problem unless you start fainting.

I've been freezing this winter.

I don't have any helpful solutions other than wearing a sleep mask around my nose to keep it warm at home (I kid you not 🤣👏).

Have you had your thyroid function tested. Constantly feeling cold was one of my main symptoms.

BungleandGeorge · 13/04/2023 21:26

Have you thought about a heated blanket for work? Also decent thermals, top and bottoms. I think anyone would be cold without any heating on over the winter months tbh

Chocchip11 · 13/04/2023 21:48

I'm the same tonight I've got a tshirt, hoodie, fleece and a blanket on, my dd had a t shirt and Leggings. Moving around helps me but obviously cant be moving all the time!

Same for me. Also, as you go into menopause, it’s not uncommon to not have much body hair ( also linked to the thyroid) and this doesn’t help if you run cold.

Thanks for all the replies.

Tonight I have on a vest, cashmere jumper (that my size 20 auntie shrank!), Wooly jumper, Oodie, thick socks. Was lying in bed and my hands and nose were absolutely freezing. DC in thin t-shirt and long leg pjs who are lovely and warm 😩

Think I'll look into thyroid testing. I'm in my 40s and haven't been to the doctor since pre COVID.

A friend of mine swears by cold dipping to give your body a bit of stress. I shiver at the thought!

I find fitting in more physical exercise has helped me get warm and stay warmer. Not sure why but the bonus of being warm seems to go on for a good 4-6 h after (shower and change into more sedentary suitable clothing)

Are you very thin? I have always run so much warmer from carrying extra lbs - maybe you need a little bit of extra padding?

Pixiedust1234 · 13/04/2023 23:03

I have always been cold. The sort of person who shivers on the beach whilst wearing a coat watching all the people wander around in bikinis.

Then I hit menopause and my core temperature is running higher than the family who laughed at me. Now they are the colder ones. I realised then that I became this unusually cold person around puberty which makes me wonder if its hormone related.

Sadly not! Within healthy BMI although I did lose a stone last year but have always been cold.

@Pixiedust1234 interesting you say that because it was around puberty I went to the doctor for being so cold. Maybe my warm time is only a few years away.

This.

I've been cold (with low BP) all my adult life. Got tested last year and now medicated, my colleagues joked that I wasn't wearing my coat in the office last winter

Chucknee · 26/04/2023 13:37

I've been for blood tests today and they are checking for thyroid plus lots of other things. Thank you for the advice on the thread. I'll let you know what the results say.

Had loads of bloods taken. One was high for the one linked to my thyroid so they re did it. All normal. No further action.

Except I'm still flipping cold!! What next?
