How much to expect from my cleaners?

I have two cleaners. They do two weeks on, 1 week off. They alternate between upstairs and downstairs so each gets done every 3 weeks. Agreed at the beginning they would do a 'general/deep clean'.
They do two hours together, so 4 hours in total.

I have a fairly large 4 bed detached house. Large kitchen/diner/snug, downstairs toilet, utility room, lounge, hall and playroom.
Upstairs landing, 2 bathrooms and 4 good sized bedrooms.

Upstairs they mostly focus on hoovering, dusting, windows, surfaces and they clean the bathrooms. They don't clean the bathrooms as thoroughly as I do (I quite finicky with limescale/mildew around taps for example) but then again it can take me a good hour to deep clean just the en-suite in this way.

Downstairs they dust, hoover, mop, windows, clean toilet/sink, kitchen surfaces, general surfaces and dust cobwebs.
I've noticed certain things aren't moved to clean/dust. For example they don't move the amp/sky box under the TV and dust underneath.

Am I expecting too much for 4 hours of either upstairs/downstairs? Are my standards too high?

I think cleaners aren't keen on moving things in case they are accidentally damaged or the wires come loose, so I wouldn't expect them to dust under electricals, but you could ask.

On cleaning the bathroom. If they scrubbed as hard and as long as you do, (as someone who is only doing it occasionally) for a full working week, they'd have RSI, carpal tunnel, tennis elbow and housemaids' knee. But again, you could ask them to spend longer on the bathroom. Be specific, point out the bits they've missed and ask them to look out for that next time.

£12 per person per hour is a lot less than the average in my city in the North of England.

My cleaning lady wouldn't dream of cleaning my windows. Nor would I expect her to do so

Work out how long it takes you to clean your house to the standard you would like it cleaned. That’s the best starting point. Then you know how long is reasonable. My cleaner came for 4 hours at a time and I expected her to take two 15 minute breaks during that time because I have cleaned my house top to bottom and I know how long it takes and what it feels like to do in one go (hence the breaks).

Also agree w pp about the pay: that’s very low for round here (£13-15 ph here).

fizzyfood · 13/04/2023 17:38

Cleaner here. I don't think this is long enough for the size of house, another hour is needed.

Weekly cleans after an initial deep clean are ok to keep on top of. Fortnightly is harder and almost like starting again, but yours are every 3 weeks per room/ floor, if I read that correctly?

I think you are expecting too much, especially if they are through an agency so only receiving a portion of the £12ph.

AlwaysGinPlease · 13/04/2023 18:09

It's not long though and you don't pay enough. Simple.

I wouldn't be moving amp/sky disc either incase I damaged it

Fynoderee · 13/04/2023 20:17

3wks is a hard frequency to judge.

Who supplies the
products? I bring my own kit with professional products that I know
will work plus an assortment of gadgets that I know will allow me to get to the awkward areas. Do they have adequate products/kit to deal with limescale?
I wouldn’t move the sky box. Scary/HDMI cables are usually pretty rigid and short and don’t allow for Movement.

Is that £48 per cleaner so £96 in total or £48 for both so only £24 each????
