Is 6 days post partum to soon to start wearing a waist trainer?

Had my third child less than a week ago and my belly has shrunk considerably considering it's my third baby. Just wondering is it safe to start wearing my waist trainer this soon after giving birth?

Many thanks for your time!

After birth your uterus has a massive wound on it from the placenta and I think it takes about 6 weeks to heal so purely from that perspective I wouldn't think a waist trainer would be recommended as it might squash your healing insides? Personally I would leave it a good few weeks and enjoy your lovely newborn, congrats 😊

SilverCatStripes · 12/04/2023 22:59

No it isn’t safe.

Why do you think you need one ?

Desmondo2021 · 12/04/2023 23:00

It's too soon to be giving a monkeys about anything but making life as easy as possible on yourself!

Why do you use a waist trainer?

AutisticLegoLover · 12/04/2023 23:48

Wtf. That's seriously messed up thinking. Your body has just done something amazing. Focus on your baby not your waist.

threeplusmum · 13/04/2023 11:01

Hi guys, thanks for the replies... I've concluded that I shall wait till my tummy has naturally shrunk a bit more before maybe using the waist trainer perhaps after 6-8 weeks recommended time. Health & well being first I guess.

What is a waist trainer?

Keroppi · 13/04/2023 11:13

No, in some cultures they wrap cotton fabric around the post partum tummy but never tightly and it's not for anything to do with your waist/training your waist to be smaller.

I've seen belly wraps/belts on amazon that are a similar thing with multiple layers for custom support. Perhaps you should talk to your GP and/or look for info on youtube/reddit/insta

I used a belly wrap straight away after giving birth with all three of mine, really helped pull my stomach muscles back in

CurlewKate · 13/04/2023 11:46

Waist trainer. AKA corset.

Dont wear it whilst pregnant - you will squash your baby !

ChaToilLeam · 26/05/2023 12:25

You don’t need one ever.

Why you casting shade? We should be supportive and not so judgemental. She was just asking a question. And honestly, do not all new moms wonder about when they'll look like themselves again? I know my appearance is on my mind.

Pancakewaffle · 25/06/2025 16:18

@BellaDonnaDiagreed - I just re-read my comment two years later and it is unnecessarily harsh! I have asked MN to remove it.
