Eurostar — Brussels to Bruge train?

Hi,
Travelling by Eurostar to Bruge next month.

Is it straight forward finding/getting the local train section from Brussels to Bruge?

I am hoping it is, we don’t arrive in Brussels until 6pm

Thanks for any tips!

Hi, yes it is. Everything is clearly signed and easy to follow. Enjoy!

ReviewingTheSituation · 12/04/2023 10:28

Very straightforward indeed. Easier than some of the big UK stations (Birmingham New St, for example).

NotAnotherBathBomb · 12/04/2023 10:28

Forgot to say, the station you arrive in on Eurostar, it's Brussels-Zuid/Midi? That's the same station you get to Bruges from.

MorehouseplantsPls · 12/04/2023 10:50

Phew this is all great news!

Pathetically I think the trains in Belgium are really lovely too. So big and comfortable and mostly double decker so you should have plenty room when you catch one. They're far better run than UK trains ime.
Have so much fun, Bruges is beautiful. If you are there for long and fancy a day trip Ghent was my favourite place outside of Bruges. Particularly the castle there, it has a free audio tour which is hilarious

@MissLC the trains will probably amaze me too. I can’t wait to kick back with a book, and occasionally stare out the window

I loved Ghent too - especially the odd bagel shop that doubled up as a laundrette 🤣.
Books n Booze is a great shop if you like to bring back a bottle of something.

Be warned to use the loos at Brussels Midi station you have to buy a token from a machine on the concourse. On the other hand the coffee at the station cafe is wonderful.

MorehouseplantsPls · 12/04/2023 11:35

Nice loo tip! Cheers

@QuickNameChangeForMeToday it's such a random place but in the best possible way. It's somewhere I'd love to go back to.

LlynTegid · 12/04/2023 13:58

Worth checking on the Belgian railways website times before you go. Some Bruges trains go onto Ostend, some to Blankenberge.

Enjoy it, and the tip about Ghent I agree with 100%.

SittingOnTheSand · 12/04/2023 14:11

Ohh, great tips. We're off interrailing next summer with the kids and going Eurostar to Brussels, then on further into Belgium/Netherlands. Loving the loo tip especially (and I'm also super excited about the trains).

Monkeybutt1 · 12/04/2023 14:42

It's so simple we went on December with our son who is 10 and I swear he almost wee'd on excitement when he saw our train was a double decker one. 🤣

Arcadia · 12/04/2023 14:51

Yes simple to find and only takes an hour or so, we had a great long weekend in Bruges in July, loved it.
On your way back if you have a bit of a wait at Brussels there are good chocolate shops at the station which I think are cheaper than the Bruges chocolate shops.

Ginmonkeyagain · 12/04/2023 14:57

It's been a while but I remember the train station in Bruges being a bit of a walk from the town centre.

Sorry it’s Brussels Midi

You probably already know this, but Midi and Zuid are one and the same station. Midi is the French term and Zuid the Flemish.
The station in Bruges is about 10-15 mins walk away from the town centre.
I'd echo the suggestion to go to Ghent if you have time. It's such a lovely place.
