Did anyone else NOT enjoy The Last of Us tv show?!

Everyone I speak to loves it, says certain episodes are the best they’ve ever seen on TV… but it just fell flat for me. On paper it should have been right up my street, I love shows about character dynamics but it just felt so contrived a lot of the time.
I loved Pedro Pascal, he’s believable in the role and plays it so well, but a lot of the main plot lines were really predictable (I never played the game) and then the twists just felt like they were done for shock value without much thought. I don’t know… just know I can’t be the only one!
come and join me fellow petty critics who weren’t wowed…

I found it really, really predictable too! It didn't bring anything new to the table except for the rather lovely Nick Offerman episode as mentioned above a few times.

I also found it incredibly annoying how loud Ellie was in situations where it was obviously important to be quiet! I know she was a kid, but she needs to learn to read the room!

i only finished watching it for water cooler conversation purposes. Now I feel like a bit of a negative Nancy.

I liked it.

However it had some serious pacing and character development issues

But, yeah some episodes were brilliant

EmmaStone · 11/04/2023 22:32

I didn't like it, neither did DH. We watched it as DD(17) loved it.

Watched it for pedro tbh
Loved the bill and Frank episode though
I suffered through all the years of the walking dead so think I was just a bit infected fatigued

That was a fantastic episode.

Changeau · 11/04/2023 22:39

That episode left me cold and I'm not sure why. It felt so manipulative.

Forestfire12345 · 11/04/2023 22:39

Was progressively more bored with every episode. 😐 Tedious ... kept fast forwarding

abovemiddlec · 11/04/2023 22:39

I quite liked it. Had never played the computer game as a few on the discussion thread here had.

validnumber · 11/04/2023 22:41

I thought it was so so.
It wasn't a patch on Walking Dead first season.
I didn't like watching new characters each episode only for them to be killed off at the end of that episode.
I liked the last couple of episodes though. Ellie saves herself from the religious cult man and Pedro just shoots everyone in the last one!

hellypad · 11/04/2023 22:44

Thank goodness it wasn't just us, we thought it was really boring. New characters were introduced only to be killed next episode then repeat, but almost no harm came to them. It would have been much better if the bad guys were the same ones for the series and were really developed, barely any zombie creatures either.

Mindovermatter247 · 11/04/2023 22:47

I liked it, it was a good adaptation, however as a lover of the game I 2as disappointed that some of the pivotal moments in the game weren’t included, they were also more action based, I get it was character centric as opposed to to action, would have loved to see more infected because they did it bloody well.

mugglewump · 07/05/2023 20:06

I endured the lot and only liked the episode about the two guys who lived together - which was the only part that wasn't based on the video game. The rest was very tedious and just like watching someone else playing a game - too much running up and down stairs/levels, finding stuff and shooting. A TV show for those who prefer video games to TV drama.

MakesMeFeelSad · 07/05/2023 20:10

Son loved it, I thought it was OK but my dsis and bill couldn't get into it at all

MrsMariaReynolds · 07/05/2023 20:13

I found it soooo boring, to be honest. Had high hopes, but I'm 6 episodes in, and I keep waiting for something amazing to happen. Hasn't yet.

SirenSays · 07/05/2023 20:15

I loved it and loved the game too. Its so much better than the majority of zombie shows/movies.

ArcticSkewer · 07/05/2023 20:17

I thought it would be really good if you were someone who never watches this kind of thing.
If you've ever watched anything remotely similar then it was dull and utterly predictable. I still watched it all so it can't have been that bad but really no idea what all the hype was about.
I do quite like those 'comic book' or 'video game' adaptations though, where they build in moments that look just like they would on page/game scene

CruCru · 07/05/2023 20:51

I enjoyed it. Having said that, the show missed out a lot of what was in the game. It appeared that Joel and Ellie magically travelled between states which was a lot of work in the game.

The actress who played Ellie was a good choice. The character is fairly snarky in the game. It was smart to cast an older person who can play a 14 year old as I think some of the scenes are a big ask from a younger teenager.

Bella Ramsey's character really got on my fucking nerves sometimes.

Mine too. I wasn't sure about her coldness.
