If you're a member of a club, what do they use for communication?

I mean a sports or hobby club run by volunteers?

We used to have a monthly newsletter (originally printed and posted out and then moved to email) which was a lot of work to produce and which members didn't really seem to read.

More recently, most communication has been through a FB group, but not everyone uses FB and information is released in bits and pieces and hard to find if you're looking for something in particular.

Members have the perception that there no communication, which isn't true but it could definitely be improved.

Members range from 80+ to early 20s so it's hard to find something that will suit everyone.

What do your clubs use?

I want to make a joke about the Semaphore Society but probably shouldn't.

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 11/04/2023 16:17

2x whatsapp
1x Facebook which is irritating as the only reason I go on other than 2 school class Facebook pages, and have to remember to go on and seek out the page to check if anyone has said anything.

Kids clubs - email generally

cockeyedoptimist · 11/04/2023 16:18

I run a sports club using an app called Teamapp
it's got a chat / comment space as well as a
schedule for games and events where members can sign up as attending / not attending

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 11/04/2023 16:19

I wouldn’t want to download a specific app etc - I have enough with the school app. You can do polls etc on WhatsApp and it ticks all the boxes imo.

cockeyedoptimist · 11/04/2023 16:19

Just to edit my message above . The app is called
Stack Team App

Needmorelego · 11/04/2023 16:19

We use Slack for general chatting and communication. Only members can join the Slack group.
We have Facebook and Instagram that anyone can view.
I also use Wattsapp for school related chat with other parents/PTA.
My mother in law uses Wattsapp for some of her groups because it's fairly easy to use (she is in her 80s).

FusionChefGeoff · 11/04/2023 16:20

WhatsApp for mine

Macey78 · 11/04/2023 16:20

Our football club uses Spond- now that I'm used to it. Does everything the club needs it to.

Needmorelego · 11/04/2023 16:21

Just realised I have spelt WhatsApp wrong twice 😂

PositiveLife · 11/04/2023 16:21

Club A: mostly Facebook group and messenger, with bigger notices going via email
Club B: Facebook group, Facebook events, club website with calendar and a monthly newsletter by email
Club C: WhatsApp group (admin posts only), general WhatsApp group, Facebook events

ExtremelyDetermined · 11/04/2023 16:22

Most of our sports clubs use some sort of online platform which manages membership, events, payments etc with email and phone notifications. Plus social media for general updates and news. Between committee members, groups of members of teams etc (adults/parents) whatsapp gets used a lot too.

Allotment association is email.

PuttingDownRoots · 11/04/2023 16:22

WhatsApp and Facebook. WhatsApp for groups that require discussion, Facebook for the one that makes announcements from the organisers (who use WhatsApp to make the plans).

HelpsHeal · 11/04/2023 16:23

I'm probably not the person to be doing this. I'm not officially, it's just that if you're going to criticise you eed to have some solutions and as a long standing member, people often bring complaints to me even though I'm not on the committee.

I use WhatsApp basically for text messages, in small groups eg family, does it do more than that? Don't things get lost in a really long thread?

Similar age range, geographically spread across the UK, 100 or so members. Monthly newsletter with all details. People will use FB to ask for reminders, details etc but it's all there on the newsletter

Essexgirlupnorth · 11/04/2023 16:26

Most e-mail, Facebook and WhatsApp. Plus usually announce things at the meeting too.
My daughters gymnastics club has moved across to an app which should make payment easier.

No matter what methods you use some people still won't read anything.

midgemadgemodge · 11/04/2023 16:28

Ours communicates very badly due to the fact that there is not one method that everyone uses - sone don't have email or social media

An email once a week gets to most people

Essexgirlupnorth · 11/04/2023 16:28

Can set up announcement groups on Facebook that only admin can send out messages so nothing gets lost. Have one of those and a chat group for a couple of clubs.

Flev · 11/04/2023 16:29

Club A: typewritten letter, photocopied and handed out or posted. Occasionally text messages/phone calls for something urgent. This group has lots of older people and the person running it is in her 80s and definitely not tech-savvy.

Club B: all done on bcc email circulations. Much younger demographic!

Muchtoomuchtodo · 11/04/2023 16:30

Heja and WhatsApp. Messages do get lost easily in WhatsApp though

HelpsHeal · 11/04/2023 16:37

Can you send WhatsApps or messages people can't reply to? I'm thinking like the marketing texts companies sometimes send? So "reminder xyz is happening at 7pm on Thurs" without everyone getting loads of I will/won't be there or I'd have come if only you'd done it differently 🤣 replies

Similar age demographic in our club, and we use email for main communications. I'm not aware of any members who don't have that, although there are a lot who don't have social media. The chair also mentions news items at the start of every club meeting.

BMrs · 11/04/2023 16:40

WhatsApp

emmathedilemma · 11/04/2023 16:43

A facebook group for members only.
A public facebook page and twitter account (run by a specific person on the committee)
A website (which we try to keep to the basics so it doesn't need updating too often)
A weekly newsletter for members (which tends to include anything important from the facebook page that week)
Leaders use a mix of facebook messenger and whatsapp to communicate between themselves

skippy67 · 11/04/2023 16:44

We use Stack Team App.

skippy67 · 11/04/2023 16:45

And a members only FB group.
