Need to make some extra cash

I know everyone is feeling the pinch, but I am starting to panic now.

I work full time and am a single mum to two dc, currently I have £90 to last until the end of the month. I’ve barely got any food in the fridge, have shocking credit so am unable to get a credit card or loan.
I just don’t know what to do, to make any extra cash.

Does anyone have any ideas?

PLEASE NOTE THIS ISNT A BEGGING THREAD!

Could you sell anything? EBay, Facebook Marketplace, car boot sale etc.

Take in ironing as a temporary solution?

Deliver packages one shift a week?

OleJunesGin · 11/04/2023 14:23

I have absolutely Jeff all to sell, was considering upgrading to an iPad with my phone provider and selling it on, but that is going to be a last resort type of thing.

Would looking into matched betting be an option? You only need to spend the amount of time you have, and you can start with a small outlay and build up.

I would definitely consider it, what is the general outlay? As I said I have £90 to last me and I don’t really want to spend that and lose it.

I dont earn masses but sign up to prolific you do questionnaires but paid quickly through PayPal. I probably earn £50 a month which I tend to save up in paypal account for emergency or use to buy dc essentials like school uniform, clothes and when desperate the food shop.

QuickNameChangeForMeToday · 11/04/2023 14:36

Also forgot to ask do you have any Clubcard or nectar points saved up?

MontanaView · 11/04/2023 14:37

What's your job? Do you have any admin skills?

Baneofmyexistence · 11/04/2023 14:39

Agree with prolific, it’s not loads of cash but it adds up fairly quickly and paid into paypal quickly too.

Selling things is the easiest quick way, I know you’ve mentioned that you don’t have much. Are there maybe a few clothes that the children have grown out of?

Survey sites and matches betting aren’t really great solutions to be honest, time consuming, no guarantee of returns and possible slow payout. I’d avoid those personally.

If you have childcare then look at picking up an extra shift, cafe / retail / bar work. Ironing or cleaning could also be good options.

If you’re really struggling your health visitor or school might be able to help you out with referrals.

LumpyLoo8 · 11/04/2023 14:43

Also, look to see if you have a local community pantry / social supermarket or similar - a low cost way to get some extra food, but open to everyone.

OleJunesGin · 11/04/2023 14:45

I do a couple of shifts in a bar already, but due to the bank holidays they’ve been closed so that normally keeps me topped up on a weekly basis.

Was also going to suggest Prolific. I've made around £1000 in a year and that's with periods of forgetting about it. It's got a cash out point of £5 which is really good compared to other survey sites I've signed up to in the past.

sorryiasked · 11/04/2023 14:45

I've had good results from selling clothes on vinted but you have to wait for the items to be received by buyer before funds can be drawn.
Otherwise could you do pick up/ drop off from schools?
Cash in any shop points, raid any old gift cards?

EssexMamisoa · 11/04/2023 14:49

Agree with questionnaires attapol or swagbucks also good but it’s quite boring for not much reward. I did find though the few extra pounds can add up. Also agree with maximising on nectar or club card points depending where you shop. I find nectar points can add Up quickly such that when I pop into Sainsbury’s on a Friday to get one or two weekend bits I normally can get it for free or minimal cost using my nectar points. Appreciate that’s not a super quick solution to needing cash today.

sorryiasked · 11/04/2023 14:49

Also, look on the meals on a budget threads for ways to stretch your £90 as far as possible.
As someone else mentioned, there are lots of "community fridge" open now which are a good source of free non means tested food. Most have a face book page.

EternalSunshine19 · 11/04/2023 14:54

Have you tried switching bank-accounts?. Go on the uswitch website and they will show you which banks will give you money for switching. Natwest give £200 as does RBS. First direct give £175
i know someone who has constantly switched and has made over £700

monkeysmum21 · 11/04/2023 15:06

Dog walking? Up cycle things you get in marketplace and sell?
