Swapping eggs in supermarket

Just had my online shop delivered. As usual I open the eggs to make sure they aren't broken (they are normally fine). I had ordered 6 large eggs. On opening the box I could see they where tiny. The delivery guy apologised and refunded and said it happens all the time. People swap the eggs on the shelf.

Now as shoplifting goes this just seems a lot of effect for very little gain. Surely it's a right faff and the risk of getting caught must be so high

This is why I no longer buy eggs from a supermarket but from an egg vending machine on a farm near me.
I've picked up too many boxes of eggs over the years and the sizing of them has been all over the place. It took ages for me to cotton o people were swopping them about.

I'm so shocked about this. People really are scum! 😒

Nespresso type poss are the other thing I've seen esp the Starbucks ones which are made by Nespresso. I see a carton of 10 poss with one removed and a few cartons like that on the shelf so people must be taking 1 from each carton and poss pocketing them

As a teenager I worked in a farm shop. We'd get some dodgy eggs with every large tray (the cracked or very fragile ones that would crack if you breathed too hard on them). When boxing them up in sixes we were told to put one dodgy egg on each box, as it was 'fairer' that way and no one got all the imperfect eggs. Also the same for bags of apples and nets of citrus. I silently refused, and when the farmer found all the bad ones still in the trays, he went mad. I walked out and never went back.

Used to live in a village with its own butchers shop and he sold eggs from a nearby farm. The 'regular' eggs, duly stamped and sized were sold for one price but the 'non-conformist' eggs - those which were mis-shapen or thin shelled or not deemed stamp worthy were sold a bit cheaper! There was never anything wrong with them Grin
