Volcanic eruption in Russia, what if they need their army to help?

No serious damage and no causalities at the moment, but if any places need to be evacuated, they are going to struggle with 97% of their army in Ukraine, aren't they.

Hopefully this will bring home to them that they are totally unprotected, from natural disasters, let alone foreign aggression, and force a rethink.

Could be the nudge needed to swing the government into thinking get their soldiers home now. We can hope

I dont understand why the areas have not been evacuated, that dust could be sharp enough to cut lungs.

Yes indeed, armies should the world over be entirely deployed on crisis civilian work rather than war.

I hope Putin takes note. But I doubt it.

Theunamedcat · 11/04/2023 13:56

Are they? Making ash angels?

Are they? Making ash angels?

Yes they are. Scenes of devastation indeed. No casualties.

I think Putin will continue current course.

vodkaredbullgirl · 11/04/2023 13:59

Putin is only interested in war, nothing else.

Nimbostratus100 · 11/04/2023 16:43

so we recon the russians have tested that dust and concluded its safe for the population to play in, and everything is ok?

I don't know much about volcanic ash. What will happen when it rains? For some reason I feel it will get very heavy, then set into a crust. Problematic.

Timeforabiscuit · 11/04/2023 17:04

I don't honestly think this would register, it's a very remote region with a continuously erupting volcano, so sparsely populated for good reason!

Disruption to air travel is more likely.

petermaddog · 11/04/2023 17:50

when mt helens blew there was ash in newmexico
it was light compared to othernstates
it ate the paint for cars
the total volume of the ash is equivalent to an area the size of a football field piled about 150 miles (240 kilometers) high with ash (USGS).

that is not life threatening, what is life threatening is sharp edged dust which can cut lungs ( like moon dust - which was one of the biggest threats to astronauts on the moon, and it had to be kept out of space craft at all costs)

of course it registers! no chance the russians have not noticed!

Kamchatka is about as remote as it gets.

You seem to think the Russian government is caring and gives a shit about its people. You would be wrong.

Who are they evacuating? It is 300miles from the nearest city, and that city itself is about the size of Carlisle. There’s a nuclear sub base, which I am sure they have secured, but the rest of that area is not worth diverting a war over, no.
