Nits 😭

We seem to constantly have nits with 10 year old dd
We have spent a fortune on treatments and even brought her to a nit treatment place four weeks ago.
They are back again and was doing comb/conditioner every day for past four days to avoid treatment as they seem to be immune to it but have put treatment in and removed over 40 and god knows how many eggs.
I do all the usual - change bed clothes , Hoover, no teddies , wash hats , hoodies , coats , cushion covers but they keep coming back

Luckily other dd never seems to get them even though they are always together

Yes there are obviously children in her class who keep passing Them on but am stuck on what to do!

Ive tried every over the counter treatment but have just come across nitwits on Amazon ?
has anyone tried this ?
Im at my wits end , supposed to have gone out hours ago but spent nearly 3 hours doing hair

help !!!

Just to add , she has very very long hair which she loves . I’ve told her once nits completely gone she is getting it cut much shorter . She’s not happy but what can I do
Tea tree as a preventative doesn’t work either 😭

We had them really bad last summer due to my youngest who kept catching them at school. Nitwits worked for us as well as combing with conditioner

SNWannabe · 10/04/2023 14:23

Do you use a nitty gritty comb? Every 2 days for 2 weeks or every 3 days for 3 weeks was my rule and the only thing that worked to break the cycle otherwise you miss eggs that hatch or babies that grow up...and it lasts forever.

Both my daughters have been nightmares for them...one more than the other. No lotions or potions worked, and they get immune to them. Conditioner, sectioning off and combing with the NG comb as I said before, watch a film etc to make sure its done properly

If you’re going to insist she cuts it shorter then give it a trim now, it’ll make getting the comb through it much easier. Follow a hairdresser’s lockdown cut your own hair type you tube tutorial and just take off an inch to get rid of most of the split ends.

My daughter had very long thick hair and we struggled with headlice all the way through primary school, despite trying every treatment we could get hold of. The hours spent combing! What solved it for us was when as a teenager she decided to straighten her hair. The side effect was that the nits were obliterated by the heat.
You might feel she's too young for hair straightening but I'd have let her do it sooner if I'd known, especially as it didn't involve all the chemicals and combing, and it seemed to be much more effective than anything else

Nits don't just get attracted to long hair you know

Inkythemouse · 10/04/2023 14:39

Nitwits worked really well for us. I also read a news article that said to blow dry their hair in a certain way and I also straightened their hair because I read somewhere that helped too.
We had tried loads of treatments but nitwits was the one that worked for us

@SNWannabe yes use the nitty gritty comb , she’s been getting them constantly since starting school at 4, lockdown was actually great as no nits 😂

@Aerosarethebest i can’t do that again , I did it over lockdown and the absolute state of it, thank god we didn’t see anyone for ages 😂Im useless at hair cutting tbh!

@MissMaple82 I thought it might be obvious that I added she has very long hair because it takes so much longer to treat compared to my other dd with shorter hair . Apologies if you didn’t understand

@Inkythemouse thanks, I’ve actually started using cold part on hair dryer to catch them as easier to spot 😂
ive heard of hair straighteners working so may give it a shot !

@Iamnotavicar thanks for this
I’ve heard about hair straighteners, I have straight hair so don’t own any to try out but I might pick up a cheap set and try it
