How many clothes/wardrobes do you have?

Just for your things ? I am in the process (just starting) of re jogging the bedrooms. I'll be moving from a massive room to a smaller (but not small).

I have 2 wardrobes each with a rail and shelf above. A tall chest of drawers - 6 drawers.

Divan with 2 spaces filled with my clothing.

Extra small wardrobe with half rail half shelves.

I wear clothes from about 1/3 of 1 rail in one of the wardrobes, and one shelf.

I don't want all these bits if furniture in the other room so am trying with a massive charity shop run. I am overweight, abd have too smallclotges but I also have many that I won't wear even if they'd fit.

I think having the massive bedroom hasn't helped, I've been able to keep all of these clothes with no problem but am struggling a bit at the thought of getting rid. I'm struggling financially too so that doesn't help.

Context- I work in an office so need work clothes. I have outdoor animals so need scruffy work clothes. I swim and exercise so need stuff for that. I rarely go out . I'm sentimental about things too!

I have 4 wardrobes and two sets of drawers, there are also few large storage boxes, yet not enough to put all my things in. I used to live in NZ and had a walk in wardrobe there. I have got rid of a lot of my clothes after moving to the uk but still struggling with the space.

DelurkingAJ · 10/04/2023 08:38

I don’t get rid of clothing unless it dies (still wear some items bought 20+ years ago) and am lucky in that I’ve gone from a 10-12 to a 12 over the years so it still fits (no longer the 8 I was at 18 and never will be again do that all went in my late 20s).

I have a corner wardrobe of hanging stuff plus a small wardrobe of long hanging stuff (mainly black tie dresses). Then a chest of drawers with three wide drawers and two pairs of two drawers. About a quarter of the corner wardrobe is full of suits that I don’t need in my current office (but used to) in case I move to a role which is more formal.

I have 33 items in one wardrobe, which has three integral drawers. Drawer one - underwear, drawer 2 - pyjamas and socks, drawer three - spare toiletries. I keep out of season stuff in a box at the bottom of my wardrobe and swap stuff out every three months with the changing seasons. I used to have loads of stuff but did a radical overhaul in Jan 2022 and have not regretted it it all. I thoroughly recommend it

JustToBeMe · 10/04/2023 08:43

4 double wardrobes between husband and I.
1 double each for clothes, the other 2 we keep blankets, bed linen and junk in!

mizu · 10/04/2023 08:46

More space = more clothes. We live in a small place and I have half a rail!! And some jumpers and jeans folded up on a wall mounted thing.

I have another rail in the attic with summer dresses and coats and I swap things over gradually, take bits up and bring bits down.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 10/04/2023 08:47

I have the equivalent of a small wardrobe, one large drawer in a big chest of drawers, and half a dozen small drawers in a dressing table. I don’t need a lot of work clothes as I mostly work from home.

I still have far more clothes than I have days to wear them. Strict one in one out policy for new stuff, which really puts the knockers on buying clothes, and I only buy things I really really want. So now I have a small wardrobe of really nice things. All part of getting old I think.

mizu · 10/04/2023 08:47

Also have a chest of drawers which has underwear, socks etc as well as T shirts, pyjamas.

mizu · 10/04/2023 08:48

@LadyGardenersQuestionTime yes to that, I'm older and less is more. I have a one in one out policy too.

Bemyclementine · 10/04/2023 08:53

@Katypp I really love that idea. I think I'll be working towards it but starting off with a big sort out this week.

I've got the equivilent of a large chest of drawers and two large wardrobes. A lot of my hanging space is probably vintage now but mostly fits, I just don't have a social life to wear much of it. One rail has a lot of guiding/ scouting uniforms. Work clothes are currently redundant but are avaliable if something crops up at short notice. I mainly live in sports and casual clothes. I have the space and it's neatly stored so I'd rather keep what I have and know that there's what I need there than to streamline for the sake of it and buy replacements. Having a comfortably full wardrobe that covers everything stops me wanting to fill the gaps even if the reality is that I do need to do some replacing in the future- but I can do that and buy what I really want then rather than panic buy because there's nothing.

DiscoBeat · 10/04/2023 08:58

One big walk in (well, through, to the en-suite) wardrobe for everyday wear, another large antique wardrobe for occasion wear and an oversized chest of drawers for folded things. I do have to edit regularly though to have enough space and I also use a big wooden chest for out of season clothes. I often look at those lovely Sharps adverts but that kind of furniture would look wrong in our old house.

Okunevo · 10/04/2023 08:58

I don't have a wardrobe. I have a valet stand and a three drawer chest of drawers.

IncessantNameChanger · 10/04/2023 08:58

Two wardrobes. However I think that's too much for my lifestyle now. I do have a policy of never buying more than I get rid of now so at least 1 out for every in. I no longer go out much post covid and its easy to buy nice things cheap off Vinted so I must thin down some more. I'm also wearing things until they get ruined now. I just mended two pairs of jeans as well. I think this has inspired me to have a declutte of my clothes today. I have 6 draws for underwear, jumpers and sleepwear too

demotedreally · 10/04/2023 08:59

We recently redecorated and I have a triple wardrobe and chest of drawers. Bag of summer clothes elsewhere.
You use the space you have. I have a massive room too but decided this is a suitable about of space.

Katypp · 10/04/2023 08:59

@Bemyclementine I also have a limited colour range so everything coordinates with everything else. Honestly I cannot recommend it enough. It forces you to really think about what you need not want catches your eye and when you do need to buy something new, the colour range really narrows things down. It has been a revelation.

Bemyclementine · 10/04/2023 09:03

@Katypp I've been thinking about getting my colours done as I'm clueless in general. This might help me buy the right things in future.

I do panic buy somewhat as although I have lots of clothes I have "nothing to wear". Plenty if work clothes and nice dresses . But not much in the way of nice day to day stuff.

While I have a massive bedroom, the house lacks storage, and I feel this isn't a good use of space. Dc x 2 are moving into my room along with all their toys hopefully, so I will need to streamline what I've got

I have three great big floor to ceiling Hammond fitted wardrobes, plus a set of six drawers. I recently had a friend round who helped me get rid of everything I didn’t wear or hadn’t worn or was most likely never going to wear again! She dragged literally everything out and put it into sections and we went through each section at a time. I find, as a result, I make more of an effort with my outfits now.

crossstitchingnana · 10/04/2023 09:28

My God, I have half a double wardrobe and three drawers. No "clothes put away for summer". I thought I had a lot!

Bemyclementine · 10/04/2023 09:31

@crossstitchingnana I dont put clothes away, I have nowhere to put them DM does this though, she had one if those big tartan zip up bags that she puts in the loft.

I have a summer wardrobe and a winter wardrobe ( in different rooms) and 2 six drawer chest of drawers.
Shoes are in a separate wardrobe on shelves.
Oh and a wardrobe for coats

Tarantullah · 10/04/2023 09:36

Far too many clothes, currently going through bags and bags of them and selling on vinted, been really impressed so far how quickly things have been snapped up! I'm planning on creating more of a capsule wardrobe of good quality, classic pieces that are adaptable and will last as appose to panicking I have nothing to wear and ordering new stuff.

I have one double wardrobe for my stuff and a chest of drawers for underwear and basic tees etc- planning on that being all of the storage I need once I've finished sorting!

mondaytosunday · 10/04/2023 09:49

I decluttered my wardrobe a few years ago (no I didn't need 20 black tank tops, however I never seem to have enough now)!
My weight fluctuates a lot and I'm guilty of buying clothes that I will fit in to when a lose a couple stone. So I have sizes for about three people.
So I have fitted wardrobes either side of the firebreast (medium to small master), a three drawer chest, and overflow in the guest room closet, which frankly I would only wear those clothes on holiday or special occasions so guess could get rid.
I downsized to half my former house 18 months ago and really feel it.
But I need to be more like my friend. Her philosophy is one in one out. She buys a new sweater? She donates/sells/bins one.

BunsenBurnerBaby · 10/04/2023 09:54

I have 5 x short Ts, 5 x long sleeves, 3x sweaters, 3x jackets 3x jeans 3x smart trousers 2 x work dresses 1 x black tie dress 3x shorts. One wardrobe. Lots of scarves as nd necklaces.

BunsenBurnerBaby · 10/04/2023 09:56
