Chocolate tea straw

I like to have chocolate or a biscuit with a cup of tea but something I've never tried is using a biscuit like a straw. Someone told me about this once.

Tonight I had a Kit Kat Easter egg. The Easter egg chocolate is pretty blah. But it came with a chunky Kit Kat so I decided to see if it would work as a straw. And oh. My. God. How have I gone without this for so long!

I bit the chocolate off each end and merrily drank my tea through it. Mind blowing! Although I did feel a bit like a kid playing with their food or blowing bubbles in their milk.

So, what other chocolate bars/biscuits would this work with. I've a lot of catching up to do!

Ok, I’m going to disgust you all. When I was about 10 I invented …

drum roll …

sucking coke through a twiglet !

at a sleepover. Bare in mind this was before the whole sweet/salt, salted caramel thing happened, and don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!

StJulian2023 · 09/04/2023 23:45

It’s got to be chocolate fingers

Dear god @MobyJeff

I'm disgusted! I'll have to cleanse my palate now with tea, twixes and chocolate fingers.

This reminds me of another biscuit I haven't had in a loooong time. Stroopwaffles (I hope I'm spelling that correctly)

Stroopwafles are Dutch, if you go to The Netherlands, you'll be in your element, lavender and black pepper ones were my favourite last time I visited. TKMaxx often have the ordinary ones, also Starbucks sometimes. Starbucks also have actual chocolate biscuit straws.

Bite each end off a twirl and use that. Delicious.

This is what I'm talking about!! Yes! A flake would be a crumbly disaster, but I'm definitely trying a twirl

How have I never heard of this?! Looking forward to giving it a go. What is the name of the long, thin, straw shape wafer/biscuit with chocolate in the middle? I think they come in a silver tin with red writing. Would they work? Were they actually designed for this?!! I'm over invested now.

These?
(Though this tin is white, not silver!)

They look like the Starbooks cookie straws. Yes they work, but I can't imagine them with tea, only coffee.
I suspect some of you would like Yorkshire Tea's Biscuit Tea.

Shock

The diagonal tea suck! Of course, I can imagine this works well for a penguin.

This reminds me of another biscuit I haven't had in a loooong time. Stroopwaffles (I hope I'm spelling that correctly)

And you need the perfect diameter on the rim of your cup to balance it on. Heat of the tea makes the inside gooey Grin

I had a Dutch colleague a way back who used to bring boxes of Stroopwaffles over from his visits home and taught us to do that.

It was an Aussie who taught me the TimTams thing.

God bless immigration!

I was taught this with chocolate fingers.

Game changer Grin

Hot chocolate through a Spira was my 6th Form snack of choice.

Oblomov23 · 10/04/2023 11:20

Chocolate straws, can't remember what make they are, 2 pack from pound shop.

mrsfeatherbottom · 10/04/2023 12:00

Chocolate fingers here although they are quite short. I remember trying a Spira in the 90s but too much liquid got through. You need some biscuit to absorb the tea/coffee.

FadedRed · 10/04/2023 12:35

Tesco sell Stroopwaffles.
I used tried the chocolate fingers as a straw for port. My Lordy how sick I was after too much of that sublime indulgence - aversion therapy at it’s most effective!

SheilaFentiman · 10/04/2023 12:39

Local coffee shop also does Stroopwaffeln. There’s a Welsh company that makes them and calls them toffee waffles too.

Biscuit to chocolate ratio is important. Noted. So much research to do. I might need to make a spreadsheet.

My god, think of the biscuits out there, all over the world, waiting to have tea sucked through them.

Maybe I need to book some holidays to further my research.

The Tim Tam Slam! Made famous here after Natalie Imbruliga did one on Graham Norton. Tim Tams are very crispy inside, like a Fox's biscuit, light and brittle. They collapse very easily. A penguin is more robust.

Stroop waffles are 😋. I get them from Flying Tiger when we visit or sometimes Waitrose or Sainsbury's. Tesco here doesn't currently have them 😭

PauseTheRain · 11/04/2023 18:28

@CampfireZen yes that sort of thing! Maybe I'm imagining the silver and red tin...
