If you had 20% off everything in a supermarket…

.. What would you buy??

I’m leaving my supermarket job shortly where you usually get 10% staff discount, but for the bank holiday the discount is increased to 20%.

What would you buy to ‘stock up’ for the final time and how much of each item would you get? Fairly flexible on finances as I have a 0% credit card and new job lined up to start soon

Cheese

Tin of olive oil

Be careful and compare the prices. It's easy to save 20% on full price elsewhere.

But I'd definitely get anything non perishable that's on offer, or own brand.

Do you think steaks will freeze & defrost ok? Never tried it before!

Absolutely fine!

Coffee, meat and fish to freeze, Ben & Jerrys ice cream, shampoo/conditioner, toothpaste, cereal, tins tuna and salmon, frozen chips, peas etc.

More expensive items will save you more £. So I's agree with nicer toiletries, towels, alcohol etc...

Xmas presents?

If it's a massive Waitrose?

Full your freezer with fish & meat and cheese.

AtomicBlondeRose · 10/04/2023 08:36

I hit my Lidl loyalty bonus last month and got 10% off my next shop. I didn’t go mad but stocked the freezer with king prawns, salmon fillets etc and made sure we had plenty of cheese, tinned tuna etc.

megletthesecond · 10/04/2023 08:39

If it's waitrose I'd stock up on the nice crisps and biscuits. Maybe the good toiletries. Anything long life.

fussychica · 10/04/2023 08:52

Anything I use that's already on offer so I get a double discount, assuming that's allowed. I buy quite a bit in Waitrose but often wait until the product I want is on offer at 30%, 25% or 20% off so another 20% discount would be well worth having.
Good luck in your new job.

LadyKenya · 10/04/2023 09:18

I would stock up on a load of non perishables. Tins of beans, pulses, tomatoes, cart on juices. Washing powder, dishwasher tablets.

DiscoBeat · 10/04/2023 09:23

I would work out the most expensive items with a good shelf life and get those.

SupermarketSue · 10/04/2023 14:03

Thanks all, great ideas and have added lots of my wish. Wish me luck for my big shop!
