Herefordshire/ Brecon Beacons holiday advice

We're off to a holiday cottage in Craswall near Hay-on-Wye on Tuesday for 4 nights. Very last night booking to salvage the falling through of our original plans. Kids are 8, 4 and 3 months. Plus a dog.

Looking for recommendations for fun things to do please. Thank you!

Tricky with such a little one and the dog.

I was going to suggest a canoe trip on the river Wye, river ferry at Symonds Yatt, Big Pit Museum, could they work if you split up a bit?

There is a maze funfair and butterfly place at Symonds Yat that might work well (not that they dog and butterflies will be a good mix!).

Eastnor castle would be worth a visit and I’m sure there’s a national trust place just north of Hereford

Butterfly farm.

Puzzle wood or forest sculpture trail in the forest of Dean.

Right by Craswall then it’s a lovely walk(not too easy though) up the Cats Back to the Offa’s Dyke. Or drive round to the car park on Hay common to see the beautiful views over to the Brecon Beacons. (check out the standing stones and watch the paraglides). Then, if you are a confident driver in single track lanes, then head on over the gospel pass and follow the Vale of Ewyas to Llantony priory.

On the English side Longtown castle is fun ( and free).
Elsewhere in the National park the Brecon Mountain railway is lovely and if you don’t mind a bit of a drive then the Dan yr Ogof show caves is a brilliant day out with younger children.

Perrygrove mini railway is fun too, and the Forest of Dean full sized steam railway.

Cwncarn Forest drive is fab - with plenty of places to stop off and play en route.

Thank you! Definitely adding some of these to the list!
