Fellow nurses. Do you find it difficult to switch off when you're not working?

I did when I first started the role but after a couple of months it stopped.

Are you new to nursing?

gyi3 · 08/04/2023 13:16

No. Coming up to 5 years

If you've been doing that for 5 years your headed for burn-out!

If its a new thing it could still be burn out

Do you work on a ward? Could you cut down on shifts. I honestly don't know what to suggest really hopefully someone more useful than me will come along.

Yes, I've recently become a band 7 and find it very hard to switch off. Wasnt so bad as a 5, got worse as a 6. I've been off for 2 days and wake up dreaming about work 😞.

Yes I've also recently become a band 6. It's been happening from the start tbh. However I don't know if it's because I've switched roles a lot. Band 5 for 1 year. Switched to different area for 1 year. Then mat leave for 1 year. Then back to work for 7 months and now band 6 in different area again. I have anxiety about most things. Just starting to wonder whether nursing is for me because I don't feel like I'm getting a break due to me thinking about work most of the time/not able to enjoy family life as it should be

@Tiredmum100 hugs to you. Band 7 is hard work I'm sure. What do you do if you don't mind me asking?

I'm a band 7 honestly if I do think about work when I'm not there it's usually because of the politics rather than the job per se. I sometimes worry about or think about certain patients (I'm a specialist nurse) but not to the extreme.

I used to until I got a new job. I leave at the end of the day and I’m happy that I’ve done everything that I can.
My manager is really supportive, we receive regular supervision, debriefs and time to reflect.
