Linguini. The bag is open but it's been stored in a sealed metal tin. Use by date is January 2023. Wot do you think?

I wouldn't think twice about using it.

mrsorangepyjamas · 07/04/2023 20:14

That'll be perfectly ok. I've used it a year past it's BB date, it's ok.

Assuming it's dried...

Pinkflipflop85 · 07/04/2023 20:14

It wouldn't even cross my mind to look for a date on pasta.

If the date was 2020 I would still use it.

CC4712 · 07/04/2023 20:15

If its dried pasta- I'd absolutely use it
If its a fresh egg variety- no

BlackeyedSusan · 07/04/2023 20:15

Absolutely use it. Used much older pasta than that and it's been fine.

userxx · 07/04/2023 20:16

I've used pasta 5 years out of date, couldn't taste any difference 🤷‍♂️

Wispawispawispa · 07/04/2023 20:16

Assuming it’s dried, This has to be a joke? I’d eat it 10 years out of date!

maximist · 07/04/2023 20:17

I'd eat it if it said January 2013. It's dried. It'll be fine. FFS.

eatdrinkandbemerry · 07/04/2023 20:19

It will be perfectly fine

WildRosie · 07/04/2023 20:22

Thanks all. I'll keep it!

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/04/2023 20:22

I'd eat it. But if you did decide to put it in the food recycling it would probably have cost you about 90p so don't fret about it.

Mostar · 07/04/2023 20:32

Past it pasta. See what you did there. 🙂

Anyhow, can't see any problem with out of date pasta. I boil the fuck out of it anyway. Nothing harmful could survive that. You could put it in a tupperware container and it'd probably be sterile enough to take into an operating theatre.

NB, I am not a microbiologist.

Switchwitch · 07/04/2023 20:34

I'm still using dried pasta from pre-pandemic (the wholewheat stuff no one wants)

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/04/2023 20:37

I'd eat it. Would never cross my mind not to.

RobertsRadio · 07/04/2023 20:42

Another one who never checks dates on dried pasta, it will be perfectly safe.

PastitPasta would be a good Mumsnet moniker.

CaptainMyCaptain · 07/04/2023 20:52

Dried pasta lasts for years.

WildRosie · 07/04/2023 21:06

Along with the meatballs, the sauce and the obligatory red wine, I probably wouldn't notice any way if the pasta was past it or past not.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 07/04/2023 22:05

It's a best before date not use by . I wouldn't think twice TBH definitely use .

GrumpyPanda · 07/04/2023 22:15

No issue whatsoever- I'd eat it ten years out of date. Flour etc does go rancid but I don't think pasta does.

ReadersD1gest · 07/04/2023 22:17

I'd eat it, but pasta is dirt cheap, it's hardly worth the headspace if you're unsure about it?

WildRosie · 09/04/2023 17:02

I'll be using it tonight. Now I have to decide between Bardolino and Beaujolais to drink. Or maybe Primitivo.

OP posts:
Lcb123 · 09/04/2023 17:05

Surely a joke? I didn’t even know pasta has a use by date. I never check them on anything, it’s all a con to make you buy more

WildRosie · 09/04/2023 17:38

No joke.
